I moved to some remote land about a year ago with no cell service or internet options. We bought a Starlink (full size) and put it on the roof. Works perfect for internet and phone at home, cost us $120/month. This isn't cheap but we have no cell service here so it's worth it to have phone service via internet.

About a month ago Starlink sent me an offer of a free Starlink Mini if I would just keep the $5 basic plan on it and try it out. Offer said I could return it if I didn't use it or use it on vacation or whatever and buy service as I needed it. $50/50gb plan or $80/unlimited I think. I'm already paying $50 for my hotspot in my truck so I thought I might try this in the truck.

My truck has a fiberglass roof but I have a mini split up top on a rack which is metal. Bought a magnet mount and gave it a try a few days ago.

Amazing. Great internet and phone anywhere, even while moving, up to like 100 mph they say.

Cool thing is that when I went to turn on the service they offered me the same 50gb/month for $25.

Here's another great thing. Anwhere I am in the truck if I don't have phone service I just jump on the Starlink's wifi and instantly I have phone service through internet so I don't even need to be near a cell tower.

If you don't already have Starlink at home and want to pay full price it's only $229 now which is still a steal for what you get.

My buddy has the mini in his truck and loves it. Said the only place he doesn’t get signal is at the fuel island under the canopy.

Yeah, I never thought about it before I got one but 18 wheelers are almost always out in the open enough for satellite signal but we take them to plenty of places where there are no cell signals.

Tell your buddy to quit checking his porn while we're trying to get fuel. :D

Significantly better - if it works in the gulf of mexico and the gulf of California it will work anywhere in the US.

Got Starlink at our place a few months ago, truly amazing signal. Out in rural NC all we had was Hughes net and poor signal. Starlink really changed that.

Changed to starlink a while ago. Phone works great on it, with Hughes it sounds like your head is in a bucket.
