Glad to hear things are going well. How long do you stay out and have you gotten your new truck yet?
Any luck on finding you a place?

The longest I've stayed out has been from Sunday thru Friday. There have only been two weeks so far like that. All the others I've been "home" (i.e., at my mom-in-law's, since we don't have a place here yet) at least once during the week. Usually I spend two to three nights a week at her place. It just varies. Some guys stay out up to 14 days, but that's generally b/c that's what they prefer. Of course, I can only speak in regard to the Decatur terminal. Not sure how the others operate. Was at the Savannah, GA terminal this past Sunday night. Only tractors they run are the smaller flat top sleepers. Talked to one of their drivers & he said they're generally home every night, but sometimes are gone overnight.
Still looking for a place. Think we may have found something though. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before we can sign on the dotted line & get the move done. Switched over to a 2013 rig last week. Really strange at first driving an automatic tho, but I'm getting used to it. All Volvo, motor & tranny. Pretty smooth! -
Enjoy the Volvo drove one at a job I worked at and it was super nice. It was a 10 speed though.
Hope you get your house soon. Does your wife live with her parents now until you can get your own place?
Have a safe trip. -
No, she's still at our place in north Mississppi, & working in Tupelo. I typically come back over here during my 34. It's just over 2 hours from our terminal.
popcorn169 Thanks this. -
RevKev thanks so much for your details of McElroy. I was very excited to apply with them until I found out they did not allow pets (as I had been told at my school). Big bummer and deal breaker as I simply CANNOT leave my best buddy behind with someone else.
I'm a single man, 57 years old and in very good after 35 years of professional snowsports - also a seasoned rock climber. So the decision to become a trucker was not an easy one. Both my parents were obese, became diabetic, and had heart issues so naturally I was concerned about staying in shape being behind the wheel of a truck 10 hours a day. Flatbed seemed the logical choice to solve that problem.
So I don't know what I'll do at this point. I live on the eastern edge of West Virginia, about an hour west of Strasburg VA (Intersection of I-81 and I-66). I just hope I can find a company that pays decent and allows me to take my dog. So far I've only got two possibilities - Southern Refrigeration and U.S. Express. -
You might knock on some doors of smaller local outfits in your area. Might find what ya need that way. And yep, don't really have to worry about extra exercise when you're running flatbed, that's for sure. I get some exercise during dry bulk load, pulling hoses, walking around checking valves, etc., but definitely not as rigorous as flatbed. Pray ya find something soon -
RevKev where do you usually run too? What do you generally haul?
Have a Happy Thanksgiving -

I've not been down around Dothan. However, TWT doesn't have a terminal near there as far as I know. We don't take the tractors home. Basically have to live near one. I'm two hours away from my terminal, but we were looking to move I to the Huntsville/Decatur area when I hired on. I hate house hunting!! Be so glad when this is done! lol
EDIT: Just realized you may have been asking about McElroy, not TWT. Using that quote about TWT in you post may have thrown me. If you are asking about McElroy, I'd think there'd be plenty of runs thru/around the Dothan area.
