My guess is WE learned there lessons and don’t haul onions on a flatbed. It’s like herding cats. They just keep squirming around.
Can’t get wet, can’t get cold, can’t get hot, can’t get squished.

It’s all you can do to keep them on the deck after about 600 miles.

Both loads I hauled We’re rejected from there original destination and rerouted to different destinations. One of them was an additional 600 miles to a much worse area.

    The big ones are
1 Onions are not covers under your cargo insurance. So if they decide they don’t want them, your buying them, cash on the barrel.
2 you have no protection of gettin paid by the broker. There bond dose not cover produce.

But mostly It’s like trying to strap down 5000 ball bearings..

Back years ago when i pulled flatbed i always carried an extra 3 ft pipe. Just put it over the end of your winch bar an it gives you added leverage. Just be careful it don't slip off and land ya on your back side.

My wife an i run dry an reefer. We load onions occasionally an I'm always asking myself why do we gotta run the reefer when i see em hauled on flatbeds all the time. Also i often wondered wouldn't it be better to use corner boards when securing onions on a flat? Just curious. I used to pull flatbed but never had the pleasure of hauling onions on one.

I went out there for a total of 2 trips. Well, made it all the way out to new jersey, and forgot how much it sucks paying toll roads. so i pointed my truck westbound and never looked back lol

now ive worked myself onto some dedicated freight my company has up here in montana, and been running it for a good 3 to 4 weeks now.

Good deal. You said that about toll roads an it made me laugh. The wife an i are still running reefer an dry van. But what little team freight our company had they lost some of it. So our miles have been down lately. We may be having to look for a different gig soon. I hate change cuz ya never really truly know how it's gonna work out at another company till you are actually there.

    2 things.

If that what they liked like when you got there they look great!

Hauling them in a conistoga certainly makes the job more enjoyable than throwing rags.
Glad you got them delivered uneventful.
