I started truck driving school today and should have my Class A CDL license in 3 weeks. The only thing i'm worried about it my background check. I have a felony that I a currently on probation for. My PO has given me the OK to leave state on a regular basis for the job (prerer local job). Will I even be able to get hired by a good company? I am a U.S. Army vet and hoping that will help overlook my arrest.

    Chinatown and hal380 Thank this.

It sounds more like a conviction if you are on probation.
Much will depend on the crime, and how long ago.
Sorry, but I don't see how being a vet makes any difference.

Hopefully you are not spending your own money for school.

Many companies will hire you. Some look at criminal records on a case-by-case basis, not necessarily what their website has. For example, Navajo Express, KLLM/FFE, among others, look at each application and make a decision concerning the criminal record.

For local jobs, just go knock on doors for those. For the other type OTR/regional jobs, start the online applications right now, don't wait. Don't make phone calls first, just submit the online applications.

Also, try System Transport; they have a terminal in Commerce City.

Here's an ad from Navajo Express, based in Denver:

We are currently hiring experienced truck drivers to grow our fleet. We have Regional, Dedicated and Over the Road positions available based on your location. In our multi-state Regional fleet, the driving area covers Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and California, and drivers are home every 2 weeks. We have two different Dedicated fleets, one from Utah to Montana and the other from Phoenix, AZ to Commerce City, CO. Drivers are home 1 day per week, usually on the weekend. Our OTR fleet has a new mileage pay incentive: after 9,500 miles, drivers earn an additional $.01/mile… and it goes up from there!

Thanks Chinatown..... I don't know if you rememver but a year ago when this court matter wasn't settled yet I was thinking of going to school then and you gave helpful advice. I will start putting in applications for regional jobs now.

Depends on the offense and how old it is... if you can provide more details we may be able to give you a better answer.

It was a conviction, I an currently on probation and am very likely to get off early in April of next year. The VA is paying for the class. Since ive gotten permission from probation to leave state for work i was considering regional work. If i couldnt find a company to hire me while on probation i was going to just do local work until i got off probation.

Yes, I remember you; you were thinking of moving to Florida for awhile. I edited my other post with some more information.

Ok i'll check that. I still am considering the move but my probation officer told me not to transfer because im not supposed to be off until 2016 but due to completion of all court orders already and good behavior I have a good chance of getting off early 2015.

It was orginally a aggravated robbery charge which was reduced to robbery so its considered non violent i guess. I wasnt the one who did it but because I was there I was charged with it even though I didnt know it was going to happen.

System Transport has a terminal in Commerce City. I think they haul a lot of building materials such as sheet rock, to Utah and surrounding states.
