Well!

I'm a tad bit heated!
My recruiter and her wait and see attitude has cost me the opportunity to work at Millis for now. Which ultimately means I'm Roehl bound...
Here is the skinny. Forgive me if I've made this statement anywhere else.
I got the approval letter from Millis I think it was a month ago. I just got off the phone with Mike and he informs me there are "no spots available at this time. Check back in 6 months."
Here is my issue. The entire time the recruiter was very blahzee about the whole thing. I couldn't commit till I had the DOT physical and passed. So I did that and sent it in. Then I was ready to send in my money for the down payment. She said lets wait on that. ok I did have the question about my past health issues. So Wed. I call to make sure they got the info. They did. She said She'd send it to Mike the training guy... (blah blah blah) Never once saying that they were filling the spots fast and there may not be space for me. I was under the impression from her that I had a spot waiting.
I call them today to make sure they got my info and see if they made a decision. They did. However, not the choice I was expecting. (not sure when they were going to let me know)
My problem was I didn't insist on talking to the training guy, Mike, to see what was going on. He had the answers. I should have asked to speak to him. I see that now.
So, you won't be seeing hindsy in a Millis truck anytime soon! I'm a little upset. I guess it just was not meant to be with them. Now my future lies in the hands of Roehl Safety! Those skateboards are calling my name
(hindsy hindsy hindsy hindsy)
Hopefully they don't slap me too! -
i was going to go with millis back in april sent them the money, cause i couldnt get a loan for the community college and then my dad finally decided to help me get the money for the college cause he didnt want me to sign a year with anyone. so now i have passed the books pretty good at driving and have my test next week. i was am pre hired with roehl going national flatbed, i get my start date as soon as i get my physical done for them. one bad thing so far was the company they use for the physicals set me up with an appointment at a location they closed in march so now i have to wait till next week which isnt to bad i guess...

rotax- That is a bit funny about the place they sent you.
Well I think my start date with Roehl will be June 14th. I gotta wait to hear for sure on Monday as well. My doc was taking his time faxing the info over. So another weekend of not knowing. I'm ready to get rolling...
I'm going flats too... National as well. -
Hindsy - I am sorry to hear that. I was hoping to run into you at Millis. (well that is if i make it through their training) Keep me posted man on what's going on with you so I know where to look for ya. We gotta share our stories over a few beers one day.
Stay tuned - the fun begins in about 48 hrs for me as I'll be heading to Cartersville on Sunday afternoon. -
Will do Baritone... Good luck to ya and you keep us posted as well!

Hindsy,
I too am bummed out about what happened to you. Good luck with Roehl - I was with them for a short time in 1995 and they were a good company back then.

Thanks taco... It will be fine. I hope! I think the company will be what I make it...

Millis did you a favor. Millis cost Millis $2,500 that you don't have to spend now. I have read their "approval" letter with a fine tooth comb. You have to GIVE them a $100 non-refundable deposit at the time of scheduling to hold a spot in class. Right. Sure. If I make a reservation at the Hilton with a deposit and I let them know I have to cancel, it doesn't cost me nearly a 100 bucks. At the end of their letter it states: "upon successful completion of the training you will be awarded a CHANCE for employment with Millis." Read that last sentence again. Draw your own conclusions.
At the beginning of their letter they wrote: ".......at only a fraction of the cost of most schools." Hmmm........ I found a public school/college (read tax payers' dollars) near my home that offers CDL Truck Driver Training - with 216 hours of instruction for tuition of $657! This school is PTDI certified. Yes, the tuition is 657 bucks. They do charge an additional $300 for an operation/maintenance fee and $160 for liability insurance. That adds up to $1117. $1,383 less than the $2,500 you will have to cough up with Millis. From everything I have read on this forum you do have to pay $2,500 no matter what happens at school or thereafter.
Also, at the end of school I will not be locked into to ANY contract, company, etc. I won't owe anybody anything. I can do what I want with my CDL. I have read some reports in this forum that you also have to sign an additional promisory note with Millis that if you don't stay with them for a certain period of time that you will owe them an additional $2,500. For a total of $5,000. I don't know or can't verify if this is true or not.
Needless to say, I will be getting my CDL on my own.
Talk to ya'll later.

I would say if you can get it done for that cheap then go for it. Sounds like you have a good plan and well thought out.
Not sure you have all the facts correct about Millis but who am I to argue that. I do know if you dont attend training the "sitting fee" is refunded. It clearly states that in the contract.
Good luck Rooster!
