Have you just completed driving school? Or have been driving with your CDL A for less than 200,000 miles? Here’s what you’ll receive:

    • $800 per week during training
    • Free lunch while in the classroom
    • Daily budget for food costs while training on the road

Post #6 is a good choice. Can make decent pay in the reefer division and drive nice trucks.

I do second the idea of getting started with Western Express. It ain't gonna those stamps of approval from most members on here or even other drivers outside of TTR. The cpm may be on the low side but you'll run a lot of miles. If you go van, you'll run the western 11 since you're in Utah. When I was there years ago, it seemed like the western 11 van drivers were happier than the van drivers that ran the eastern half of the country. To me, Western can make a driver more money on the flatbed side. They always had so much flatbed freight, and you'll run all 48 states. Going to the van division may have concentrated in an area for a period of time. It isn't a perfect company by a long shot, but to get started, they're as good as anybody in my opinion.

I'm surprised that you haven't tried Pride or Magnum. I see both of thise companies by large numbers every time I go to Utah. I don't mean to pry, but I'm curious, why so little experience in 8 years of having your CDL?

The problem is I have a CDL but not fresh outta school. Got it in 2015. Current med, twic, hazmat. Prime won't take me. Pride won't. Most want 6 months to a year OR they want you to be a recent grad but they don't want those that have had a CDL for a few years now with no experience.

Did you try Kold Trans and Western Express?
You may be surprised at companies that will take you, even if the website says you're not qualified. Happens all the time.
    Submit the apps before calling.
Kold Trans hired a guy where I live that graduated from CDL school 10 yrs. ago, but hadn't driven since cdl school. Zero driving experience.

Did you try Post #21, dock-to-driver program. If you're close to the terminal, go in person.

Stop obsessing over the idea that your CDL has gone "stale"....due to lack of use.

CDL's don't come with expiration dates on them.

I got mine in 2017.....& didn't start using it until 2019.

Your problem is not an unused or "old" CDL; your problem is that you are trying to get a CDL class "A" job in what is the worst freight market in some time. :(

With limited freight -- and also, crappy freight rates -- carriers have tightened up their hiring requirements.

You (still ) don't say where you are in Utah (it must be a big secret ).....but my sources tell me that Western Dairy Transport has started hiring again, in Utah.

Suggestion: do as suggested above in post #26 -- submit completed apps, first -- then call about a week later, to follow-up....with the other leads posted here.

If........all the other job leads posted here don't offer any worthwhile results....give Western Dairy Transport a try.

WDT will be food-grade tanker duty; thus, you'll need a tanker endorsement to work there.

While you're applying to all the other leads posted here -- go back to your local DMV office, and take the test for the CDL tanker endorsement (it's an easy test--but you should study for it beforehand).

Should all the other suggestions here give you the cold shoulder -- you'll then have what you need to qualify for a job with WDT (no driving experience req'd there -- they hire and train CDL beginners):

Western Dairy Transport -- you'll need a tanker endorsement -- no prev exp req'd

Ahhhh I see. You mentioned Schneider on your previous post. If they're willing to give you a chance, you ought to take it. At this point, you gotta get in the door some kind of way. Companies have become picky with the freight downturn, so in turn...lol, drivers can't be all that picky.
