Yeah, my 42 weighs 58lbs. The R5 weighed 26, half the weight.

Here is what I used to heat the bolts up. Welding the one wasn't enough to unsieze it. Still had to heat it up to break it loose. My finger felt like it was going to fall off after holding the trigger for about 10 minutes x3. But it had the desired effect.

20170318_135411.jpg And amazingly enough I could see a slight red glow to the bolts after a while. They broke loose easy peezy with a small breaker bar. I was skeptical this would work getting enough heat in there but if you're patient and heat soak it for about 8 or 10 minutes it works. For guys who don't have acetylene torch looking for a cheap alternative.

Did you put never seize on the bolts going back in? Hopefully you don't have to change starter ever again but if you do the bolts should come out easier.

I installed one of those starters on my trucks and it sure does have a different sound to it when it's cranking over.

@rollin coal , you know, you are right. That map gas actually gets pretty dam hot. I keep one exactly like what you have in my side box for winter time emegency and something is froze up. Works like a charm is your careful.

Im glad you got that one out and it didnt gall up the threads in the aluminum flywheel housing! I bet your feeling better about the starter situation now.

I'm pretty sure the 42 in my truck weighs 580 metric #### tons. I could not pick that thing up in there, while laying on my back, for love nor money. Granted, the starter probably weighs more than me.

If it ever needs replacing again, I'm just going to unbolt it and let it drop on the ground to decompose naturally. Then I'll put a 39 in it.

For sure glad it came out. Yeah I put plenty of copper anti-seize on the threads. Should come apart easy the next time. Sounds like a Volvo cranking :-/ guess they put these high torque starters on those from the factory.

Now all you need is a track suit and a big VOLVO sticker to go across your visor and you'll be all set.

Lower it. Wrap a rope around it and run it up over the radiator support bar and down. I wouldn't let it drop. If your luck is like mine it will snag something on the way down.
