Age Has nothing to do with it as long as you are healthy and can stay that way life on the road can get to you or your wallet you have to make that decision.

I agree with the one who said to go to a training Academy whichever company you decide to go with. I have talked to many who went to private schools and learnt the bare minimum, some have their own testers and let things slide....
One guy I talked to only drove in a truck for less than a hour on the road with the private company he went with, they spend over a week just in a class learning for the permit, I studied for my permit online.

My personal experience I went to Swift Academy, they require you to study and the 2nd day your there you go and test for the permit, they dont teach that part of the course. After that your mostly out on a range inside of trucks learning backing, shifting etc.

I dont know which company Academy is the best, only know my personal experience and what I heard from people so you need to research what you like best. I know they all pretty much start at a low pay per mile, Swift begins at $0.25 a mile and goes up to $0.32 in the first year. Some companies might pay more but I dont know.

Sure you can do it! I've been driving almost 14 years and I'm 60 now. The cold gets to me, but other than that, you will probably bring a great work ethic to your future employer, that is hard to find these days. :biggrin_25523:

I agree with you tolson, I am still fairly young turning 30 soon but I was raised to work hard and started working at the age of 15 mostly while I was off from school. I became a manager at 24 working my way up as an Executive Chef quickly and I had to deal with a lot of young idiots, a couple places I managed I had older people who did not like someone half their age telling them what to do though. When I took a job at a restaurant on a navy base I had a lady who was 72 still working doing the salad station and also helping me with buffets and she walked circles around the 20 year olds, I loved that hard working woman and would have to tell her to sit down and take a break half the time. If I would of been able to open my own place I would of took that woman with me and paid her well to work less, she was such a hard worker and the customers loved her to death. The next job I took which was my last before becoming a trucker I worked with mostly middle age Hispanic women in the kitchen and they worked their ##### off while the one young 23 year old was lazy and didnt want to listen to me.

Its sad that people dont want to work these days, I have a best friend from grade school and I think he has worked a total of maybe 4 years out of his life, he lives on the system.

Well lets see what is too old to start driving school. From a personal standpoint I would say when you are so old that you have to wear diapers, drool when you talk, forget your name, have to use a walked or electric scooter to get around, and have 1 foot hovering over the hole at your grave site while standing in a puddle of grease during a tornado.
