Many companies will require you to go out with a trainer for a certain period. No better time to be out with a trainer than during the winter.
Starting at a bad time??

95% of winter driving is just like summer driving except there is snow piled up on the side of the road. Most of the time the roads will be clear, except Indiana, bigger more constant irritant is parking lots that stay iced over but usually you're going so slow in those it's not much of a concern. But like all have said on here, you will eventually drive in the winter, we all do, might as well get it over with. Yes storms do hit but winter isn't anything to be scared of. Check the forecast every day and if you see a big storm is coming in and you can't get out of the area, find a truckstop, get fuel, food, some movies and maybe a bottle of lotion.

Was that last part really necessary?
Charli Girl Thanks this. -
Of course it was. You should never take on a snow storm without a bottle of lotion! That's a nightmare waiting to happen. You might be stranded indefinitely, and then what would you do?

Seriously speaking, I keep a bottle of Corn Husker's Lotion. Nothing works better for dry, cracking hands than CHL. My granddad used it. It's cheap and effective. It also makes the BEST shaving cream and after shave lotion. Never had a better shave than with CHL.
For lips use Carmex in the little yellow squeeze bottles. The base ingredient is lanolin (sheep sweat), which heals lips quickly. -
Udder cream, not udder balm, is best I ever used. Hauled cars for 25 years, in the winter hands would crack and bleed from being wet and cold through the leather gloves. Put liberal amount of udder cream on hands and they would heel almost over night. It has a pleasant smell to it unlike udder balm. Not as pleasant smell as coco butter but good enough for a truck driver.
You can get it a Tractor Supply stores.

I prefer Cocoa butter lotion myself

I concur with those that advise to not wait to get out into training, no matter what time of year. Getting trained in winter is the BEST time IMHO. You get to start out in the toughest road conditions with a seasoned veteran beside you. Once you learn to drive in snow and ice the rest is easier.
