Yes, they will hire you for vac truck driver or frac or winch truck and put you through their school if you have your permit. Like you said, frac is not much driving, but there were a few frac hands there getting their CDL there last week. There was also a winch truck driver there. If you have a Texas permit, they were taking you to the DPS there in San Angelo to test. The vacuum truck is a tanker. Pretty much vac trucks are what they are really short on in Big Lake. They do have some winch drivers there also but I don't know about them.

Thanks again for the help, I am going to the Odessa/Midland area for the job fair on December 10th and it looks like Nabors is supposed to be there, but if not I will be driving to Big Lake the following day. I'm going to try for the vacuum truck position since that is where you say the shortages are. Online applications don't seem to work too well for me so I'm gonna show up and start knocking on doors. If you go in Big Lake, be aware that there is a shortage of place to stay.. but there is plenty work (not just for nabors, Basic is looking too, panhandle, select, Cot, and probably some others i didn't see the signs on the side of 67).
As of the online applications, if they ain't in the system they usually won't consider you on 'face to face' not because they dont want to but because that's the way corporate make it work.Spacat1 Thanks this. -
Thank you, yes I'm definitely going to fill out the online apps first before I go over there. As for places to stay if I can't get company housing it looks like I'll be sleeping in the back of a van for a while. I've been an expedite driver for the last 5 years so sleeping in the back of a van is nothing new to me

a kill truck is a truck with big pumps (triplex, viking, bowie) mounted on, that are use to put pressure in a well so it wont be active anymore (by usually pushing brine down the hole at some thousands of psi - A hot oiler can be used to do the same job too) and then the rig can work on the well and get the sticks out etc.

Well, it ia about time for an update. Our official start date was October 27th. We had 4 days of Orientation and then they sent us to their truck school which is mandatory for all new hires. Some don't go right away but before they are on their own, they will be sent. The school is either a 6 day or 11 day course. The 6 day is a refresher for drivers with experience and the 11 is for those with less than 6 months experience driving. The last three weeks we have been with a trainer. Right now they are only letting us drive on the lease roads until we have a supervisor give us a road test where they will go out with us on a run to see that we can drive and load and unload. At that point we will be ready to be on our own and will be on their insurance. We are hoping to road test either over the weekend or the first part of the week. One of the supervisors is on vacation so they are short right now. The job is fairly easy but the hours are long. The first week was just a 4 day week due to my trainers days off and I got 50 hours. Last week I had 68.5 and right now I am sitting at 54 for this week and still have Saturday to go. Those are payroll hours. You will push your 70 during your 5 days of work. They run a 5/2 then 5/2 then 4/2 works schedule so you have the same two days off for two weeks and on the third week your two days off move up a day. The last two weeks I have has Thursday/Friday off but next week is my 4 day week so I will move to Wednesday/Thursday for two weeks and then so on. So far we are liking the company, but there are a lot of things that I would change and that I don't like. We are new so I will just do my job and see how it goes. It seems like we have more trucks that are down than are running at any given time, but some of the drivers really treat them like #### and run the hell out of them. I know the lease roads suck, but there are some drivers that are harder on the trucks than is necessary. Then there are some drivers that don't have any respect for the supervisors and have serious attitude problems. It would be good if they got rid of them, but seeing as how this is the oilfield, I imagine they will move on before long anyway. Overall we are enjoying it and glad we made the move. The money is good so I can't complain about that.

Good info Tracy. I'm a frac fuel driver and have been working on a Nabors/Oxy job for the last few weeks and it seems like Nabors employees really have their stuff together more so than many (Halliburton, Python, Baker, etc). I've been really impressed at how they seem to get things done safely and correctly, which is HUGE out here and completely neglected by many other companies.
Anyways, hope the job works out for you!
