Wyoming is quite a place. Winter is here as far as Wyoming is concerned. We talk about all the States in the Union in winter, summer etc. But when someone speaks the dreaded word "Wyoming" the entire collective of truckers become silent. And contemplate the winter hells that state has offered us.
Ima ask you this neighbor. What in tarnation is up there that we aint got down here? Ive pretty familiar with Wyoming and like it myself. But darned if I move out that way any time soon. (Casper in particular, those were very good people when they needed to be that one night)
Cheyenne is all about Railroading. Union Pacific to be precise. Arkansas has Uncle Pete quite a bit here too. There is some oil and a few other assets in Wyoming.
Getting a CDL is a process. Particularly if you have to go for the Hazmat. You will have to sit down and interview with TSA homeland ssecurity in person for a threat assessment and wait up to two months for a decision to yes get the endorsement or no do not get the endorsement.
You have a permit to get, the real ID Act of 2020, in which Arkansas is already imposing new requirments such as utility bills in your name to be submitted and other records you might have to go to Archives or Little Rock to go get. Get all that out of the way and a full CDL into your pocket.
Once you have that, then if you two still want to go to Wyoming, transferring the CDL will be a simple matter of passing eyetest, various written tests, nice picture taken and print you a new CDL for Wyoming if that is where you are going for good. You can only have one CDL.
As far as tuition, you could save up the money over some months, pay the thing get your CDL outright. OR you can hire onto a company that pays your schooling, but if you get fired, quit dismised or something else you are billed the whole amount due and payable that day. Don't have it? Into collections you go, along with Judgement, garnishment and so on. Which is way better to get your own CDL your way.
There are more thoughts to your situation, but I think Ive said enough and we will see where this goes tomorrow.
Starting but moving??

I try not to fool with anyone training in a big truck these days. Life has a way of mellowing things out a little bit. But that would be one program you can look into.
Arkansas also has what is called a workforce rehabilitation. Searcy AR off Marion street used to be one of their offices by the Unity Hospital (WCMC) Anyway when I was medically disabled from trucking forever, this is the state agency that sent me to college for several years to learn a new trade, in this case computers, internet stuff and so on.They did a good job. Im pretty sure there is something for you and ASU should the State send you to school. IF THEY DO THIS... one of he things you will be contracted to is staying in Arkansas 4 years so that your labor is not stolen by Wyoming for example. If you left this state you will owe Arkansas the tuition money.Mr. Wavy Thanks this. -
When I moved to Nevada from Tennessee all I had to do was an eye test to change my license.
Most states make it simple, but hazmat you have to do over. Illinois is the worst state and that's not hard to figure out why.
When we decided to move from Tennessee, which is my home state, Wyoming was one of the states we considered. Researched Little America area around Exit 68 on I-80 and Jackson's Hole/Jackson, Wyoming.
Then narrowed it down to Austin, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada. Las Vegas won out eventually.Mr. Wavy Thanks this. -
We have family in Casper and Laramie. I'd move to WY in a heartbeat. The beauty of that place overwhelms you. As far as the cold, yessir, but I've always subscribed to the theory that you can always add another layer to get warmer. Unfortunately, there's only so much you can take off to get cooler.
Mr. Wavy, Cattleman84 and Chinatown Thank this. -
When I switched from Pa. To Ny it was a nightmare changing my Cdl. Changing my buissnes to Ny was even worse. Ended up changing it to my parents house in Pa then after all the crap to change a llc. To ny. Took almost a year to get the llc. To ny.

There's plenty of oil field work in Casper, for example. You could likely be home most every night. Many oil hauling companies will help you get your CDL. The money is good. With many of the companies the benefits are great.Mr. Wavy Thanks this. -
most western states its pretty easy to get your CDL changed over... The worst ive heard is you have to retake the written tests. HazMat is another animal entirely.
Mr. Wavy Thanks this. -
@x1Heavy fyi buddy, for hazmat there is no interview. You just show up at your appiontmnet time, show your license, and they finger print you, pay your money and bounce. That’s it. Takes ten minutes. Depending how nice or grumpy the people are there will dictate the amount of small talk you incur. But they don’t ask any “interview” type questions where your answer would have an impact on the backround check.

A few weeks ago I was able to get in/out with my HME & TWIC fees and fingerprints in about ~15mins. No interview or anything. I called back the 800# to the enrollment center call center a few hours later (the email they send you will say something like 2 weeks to find out results) and was told that both were approved.
Where they WILL interview you twice (Canadian Officer and then US officer) is for when you apply for your FAST ID, which I did this past Friday out of Detroit. My appointment time was 830am. I got there at 8am when they unlocked the door. I was back on the road with an approved FAST North/South ID (They send in the mail) by 815am.
As for the transferring of your CDL. It's all done through DOT. Have a current CDL out of X state, well, guess what...when you move to another state, so does your CDL. It's why you can take CDL training (be it through a 3rd party CDL school or Truck Driving paid CDL training in one state, and then be sent back to your home state to then be issued your CDL and throw away your Commerical Learners Permit) in a different state than your home state that you were issued your CLP from.Mr. Wavy Thanks this. -
Lots of driving jobs in WY. Local, intrastate, regional, and still in the hiring area for most mega OTR if you need to go with one of them for easy training. Open deck, dry bulk, oil field...
If WY isn't in the hiring area of who you were looking at the keep looking.
