Always glad to see someone starting out on such a positive and hopeful note. Best of luck to you.

You will see many beautiful places out here, but for my money, Utah is one of the prettiest states by far.

    MsRenee330 Thanks this.

Central Transport is one of the worst companies to work for, run!! They don't care about you, and they will mess with your money too. Check your check really closely.

well today is my last day hopefully in slc and it was a true adventure to say the least! This accelerated course is something serious, but I completed it all my only complaint about the school is that the classes are way to big! If you have no idea how to drive a truck your not getting enough training due to the fact that everyone has to have a turn so you have to be a fast learner, but the instructors are very helpful and will give you everything you need to pass so if you really want it you will get it good luck to anyone who wants to do this and I do give Central my props over all a very good company so far.

Good luck out there, and as long as you pay attention and get your paperwork done right and on time, along with not advancing yourself out of a paycheck you should do just fine!

    MsRenee330 Thanks this.

First thru third gear are basically your gears that you start off in. Depending how heavy you are is which one you start off in. 4th gear is your gear you want to use when taking a corner or turn. Use 5th gear for faster turning or corners. 6th gear will take you to about 25-30mph. 7th gear will take you to about 30-35. 8th gear 35-45. 9th 45-60 and 10th gear is basically cruising gear. Can vary slightly with different trucks but this is just a general guide. Keep in mind any gear you use with the selector in low range has to be slower than a slow turn.

When you are shifting gears its all rhythm. Once you get up to speed in that particular gear you clutch, neutral, than clutch and put into next gear. If you are downshifting you will have to rev up the rpm's when you hit neutral before clutching and putting in gear. The higher you run the rpm's when shifting the longer you will have to wait to drop into gear. So if you practice by shifting sooner it will be easier. When the engine fan kicks on you will have to shift a little faster because it draws power for the motor and will drop the rpm's faster.

Try and go through all gears as soon as possible without bogging the motor down. You want to get going just fast enough in each gear to be able to switch up to the next gear. This will make shifting easier and fuel consumption less. When you are downshifting the slower you are going in that particular gear the easier it will be to down shift. If you are going fast you will really have to rev up the rpms to get it into the next lower gear.

It really is just going to take some practice. Give yourself some props! You have only been doing this for a short amount of time. Once you get the hang of it you can learn to "float". Floating is way easier! Your trainer may show you how but Central will want you to double clutch for your road test. Floating will really save your leg from falling off, especially in traffic!

Hope this doesn't sound like a mumble jumble!

Really is beautiful out there at the Central terminal huh?! Have a bunch of picts in my profile from there. We always loved it out there! Miss it now, far west as I go now is TX. Running out west is one of the big perks of driving over the road!

MsRenee, hope all is going well for you. Make sure your trainer is treating you properly and is showing you what you need to know. Any problems be sure to speak up! Make sure your trainer is preparing you for winter driving also.

Good luck to you, drive safe and keep up the good work! Won't be long and you will have your very shiny truck!

    cyn1123 and ladyfire Thank this.
