More PTI and a recruiter from US Express today. Not a very charismatic guy. Kinda dull actually.

Worked on how to use an atlas today. Was funny to watch everyone else trying to figure out how to plan a route, how many miles it would be, and all that stuff. I kinda had a leg up on them as my dad had shown me years ago how to do all that. Everything that was taught, I already knew. :biggrin_2559:

    Then a rainy lunch.

Rest of the day was spent learning about air brakes and the ABS system. Two videos and some work sheets. Once we were done with that Benny told us a few stories from his experiences as a trucker. They were funny.

Now I've got 3 days off before I go back and begin working with the trucks in the yard and backing up. Should be interesting.

    sammycat Thanks this.

Thank goodness you can read a map!

Too many people depend on their GPS or qualcomm and get lost or make wrong turns!!!

    Enjoy your 3 day weekend!!!

    Thanks Sammy!

Yea, Benny made fun of people with their GPS's too. Can't blame him, I don't much have a use for them either.

I think GPS are a greated ADDED on way to plan your route/trip but ther are many on here and some very recent who ONLY used their GPS and ended up is some not so great places to have a big truck! You have to use maps, GPS AND YOU OWN head!!

I was a home care nurse for 8 years so I learned the value of map reading and planning out your day and route VERY quickly!!!!

just wait till you get your first full hour on the road, or even on the yard backing. After that first hour on the road your leg will be shakeing so bad you wont even be able to push the clutch in lol or at least hold it in.

I learned how to drive in a Freightliner FLD, it took everything i had to push the clutch down, and i had to hold the steering wheel to keep from pushing myself up out of the drivers seat lol. VERY hard clutch lol
