    im sure you'll do fine.

    I'm gonna share a little story that'll help you;

Before i learned to drive a truck i had pulled untiliy trailers/ snowmobile trailers etc before so i knew the whole turn the oposite way thing right....But when i got in the truck the instructor said "just back straight up" he just let me do it all on my own. I did GREAT for about 10 feet then it all went to sheet! :biggrin_2559: So he comes over, jumps up on the step and says ok pull all the way back up. Then he says, put it in reverse and just do what i tell you nothing more or less and just watch the drivers side mirror and watch what happends as you do it. so i did....

After we backed up went all the way back 300' perfectly straight and he says ok pull all the way back up again as we are idleing back to the front he says "did you see what we did?" i said yea....:biggrin_25511: He says "you turn INTO the problem, if your backing straight and you see more of the trailer comeing into the drivers side mirror thats the problem right? so you turn Towards the problem (to the drivers side) and it will fix it"

Then he jumps off and says you try it. I did and did i perfectly that time and every time after that, have NEVER had a problem backing since then. Then when we swiched to the 45* back i used the same principle and i screwed it up the first time but nailed it on the 2nd try and every time after that.

The bold is words to live by, get that to make sence in your head and you'll have no problems.

When i was at CTDTS mario was trying to teach people with the "turn the oposite way" meathod. and go so frustrated he just walked away from these students and let them figure it out on there own, so i walked over and did what terry had done for me all those years earlyer, i rode on the step 1 time with them, and told them exactly what he told me, and they got it, and had it down packed by the end of the day.

The 45* was a whole differant ball game though lol they just couldnt figure that one out :biggrin_2559:

It makes a whole lotta sense. Hopefully I'll remember more from the times I was on the road with dad and watching him back up before we get started.

I think during the week Mario does the road training while Marvin does the backing.

Today we spent the whole time (our 10 hours of class) out in the field working on backing. We're using these two ancient Mack cab-overs. I didn't do too bad on the straight back but did have some trouble on the 45*. We'll be back out there each day this week. I think I sunburnt my face again so I'll be taking some sunscreen with me tomorrow.

This will be an interesting week as I already hurt. :biggrin_2559:

More backing today. My face hurt more than my muscles. :biggrin_2559:

They switched the trucks around. (The one on the 45* had a van trailer and the one for the straight back had a flatbed) Everyone was able to do the 45* better and the straight back worse. Most of the guys in the class were watching the header board instead of the back of the trailer and kept backing the wrong way.

I wasn't the only one who brought sunscreen today. 2 other guys did as well, though I had the black guys laughing by calling myself a "crispy cracker". I'm not right. More backing again tomorrow.

    Yet again, more backing.

Did my first PTI today. Didn't do too bad. Forgot a few things and missed a few things as it's a bit unnerving when you are suddenly presented with a key. I'll have to read through AT's PTI thread again as my brain leaked most of it out when I was staring at the engine. :biggrin_25523:

Today's recruiter was from Werner. He made me chuckle on the inside as he told us about all the "technology" they have. (IE qualcom, ezpass, and other such goodies. Oooooo....)

Improved on my straight back, just gotta work on that drift to the right it does at the end. They had us try it once on the pavement. I didn't do so well as it was near the end when the other trucks would be coming back. I didn't do so well on that. Couldn't see that well (even with the seat adjusted properly) and the sun was making my face burn. Ah well, I wasn't the only one.

Still gotta a bit of work to do on my 45*. I can get it in the box twice but the third time I'll have a brain fart and go right when I should go left or go left when I should go right. It's ok, I'll work on it more tomorrow.

Oh and AT, the head instructor is a guy named Gino. He's pretty cool, he'll pick around and bs with the students.

Can you guess what we did today? :biggrin_25523:

    Yup, you're right, More backing!

Just about got my Straight back nailed but was having a lot of trouble with the 45* today. Just couldn't get it in the box until late afternoon.

Today's recruiter was from McElroy. A big selling point of his was that "70%" of loads are already tarped and that in some cases you can drop and hook. The other big one was the home every weekend. Quite a few of the guys are looking for local (Where they're home every night) or something where they're home each weekend.

I'm definitely ready for my 3 days off and am interested to see how things go next week.
