I have my CDL, just haven't driven since 2007. Last time OTR was in the 80's. I got into IT in the 90's and did casual driving, weekends, for several companies in the area.

Thou can try taking to transport national, they are based out of oak creek Wisconsin, that's who i drive for. They take very few new drivers, but are definitely looking for more drivers

Thanks. I'm not going to be actually applying for any jobs until I retire in a couple years. Right now I'm just wondering if starting to learn flatbeding at 60 years old was doable with training companies like Maverick, TMC, etc...? From the responses so far it looks like others have done it.

@TPS Report I was in the same situation as you. Off the truck for 10 years and was hired by a mail contractor. After 4 months there I had an interview with Old Dominion for P&D position. Yesterday got my second interview there with the TM. Looks good so far, suppose to receive an offer in the mail with the pay rate. Was told it will be more than what I make now which is $21/h. Fingers crossed.
Send applications everywhere. Someone will hire you. After 3 months start applying at the companies you really want to work for. Ignore their listed experience requirements. The worst that will happen is they will say "no". You just wait 6 months and apply again. Make sure you keep your driving record clean. That helps a lot.
As for your age, if you are in good health and shape you'll be fine. If you are not in good shape you will be in couple weeks driving flatbed.
    Good luck.

Are you planning to lease on to a company as an 0/0? Was reading that Waggoners Trucking has an account in South Carolina hauling sprinter vans. Don't know if they use their 0/0's or company drivers for that account. OK, looks like that's a company driver account on the website..
