Ready for the saying that was fast.

Turning the truck in lol. Made it week and Monday. After the bait and switch and changing location I can’t calculate anything me and the trainer did that surpassed $20 a hour forget time and half after 40. With all the wait time I would rather sit at home. Plus the army has plans for me in May. What should I do between then and now.......

Thanks for your insight if you shared. Besides owning my own rig this was the only non hourly paid job I have had. I guess minus the army reserves but I truly love that stuff. So I guess I can’t stomach not being paid by the hour.

Sorry to hear that you're hanging it up . I've felt that way many times. I remember a 20 hour day back in 1998 when I first started pulling a walking floor out of Brooklyn to PA.
DOT hammered the hell out of trash trucks coming into PA trying to keep them out . I spent all night waiting to load behind 30 trucks . I finally left at 8 am in nitemare BQE traffic . I got grabbed by one of the 5 DOT vans at the Delaware Water Gap and got put out of service with an almost brand new truck for "play in the steering universal joint" it was BS ,it was there "go to " violation if they wanted to put you out of service and they hated the company I just started with. I sat there 4 hours waiting for a road service company to come and change a perfectly fine u joint . I left there and went to the landfill in Pen Argyl PA . They hit there quota for the day and weren't taking any more trucks . The company told me to take it to Taylor
PA to Alliance Landfill. I got there at 3:30 pm and they hit their quota (tonnage ) for the day and weren't taking anymore trucks. The company told me to take it to the yard and dump it tomorrow. I told them I just put in a 20 hour day and how much did I make for the day and they said 25% of nothing is nothing ,you get paid when you dump. I told them I was done and I'll be turning in the truck at the end of the week ,that I don't work for free for anyone. They got upset and kissed my ### and talked me into sticking it out ,and I did for a few months ,and went to another company. I never planned on running a walking floor more than 6 months because I owned a small diner in PA that I was finishing remodeling. That was 20 years ago and I'm still running a walking floor and that diner is long gone and I just bought another diner but still running a walking floor.LOl!
Good Luck in your military commitment and whatever you plan on doing trucking when you find your next gig.
Good hourly jobs are very scarce today, and hard to get in . There are some union hourly walking floor jobs that pay ok ,but very scarce. I make great money pulling a walking floor now ,but it's taken a long time to put together the situation I have now. I get paid by the day,not by the load.
A flat rate no matter what. It works out for me and I also
Make money buying and selling equipment and real estate ,so the nature of the work gets me home everyday (mostly) and no one bothers me ,except for an occasional
Over zealous newly badged DOT cop now and then, but I usually beat them in court 99% of the time, still sucks though.
Anyway, best of luck and there's a lot of jobs out there for an experienced driver with a clean license, you'll find a good gig in no time , when your ready.

I will be a graduate of NETTTS towards the end of April with CDL-A. I will obtain endorsements as well. X,T from CT. already have my TWIC. I want to strictly work for trucking companies who's tractors are manual transmission. Goulet is on my radar.
