This is my first time talking about quitting my job that has been my only job since high school. Scarred to death but fed up with California and my company. In the next two years i want to be an owner operator. I need all the info I can get. The only thing i know i want to do is drive truck. What kind of truck to buy? I will be financially stable in the next year to finance a good one. I have a home that is not under water here in the California Sierra Nevada mountains just off SR88. Where should i base my business? Id prefer Idaho or Montana. What type of freight should i start with? I was thinking mover or heavy haul. WHERE DO I NEED TO START? Thanks.

Go to truck driving school and get a entry level job so you can learn the trade and by then you will be able to answer your other questions. Nobody else will be able to answer them, only you will know what you want to do.

You need to start in a company truck. It'll answer a lot of the questions that you have, save you the expense of making rookie mistakes on your own dime, and make your insurance rates a hell of a lot cheaper once you're paying them on your own.

Heavy haul is where the money is at for sure. Like others say drive a company truck for a few years and save money while learning the business. Try to start as a rookie working with flatbed companies, Anderson would be a good place, but i done know if they hire rookies.

Base your business in a low/no tax state, and DO NOT re-fi your home to get $$$ to start your business.
