The " Contract Option" is worse than you can imagine. Find yourself an outfit that has drivers and dock workers. Many of those will help you transition from dock worker to driver.

So I filled out some applications to companies on this list http://www.truckingtruth.com/free_truck_driving_schools/homepage2.html, but something tells me I won't hear back anytime soon.
I broke down and called NETTTS and set up a tour for tomorrow. I don't plan on signing anything then and there, but want to get a feel about how good they are about employment and how steep their prices are going to be. -

Firstly you need to evaluate yourself and see what you're trying to accomplish in life. Will trucking help you reach your goals? What about trucking gives you an uneasy feeling? Are you responsible for anyone other than yourself? Please don't just enter this industry blindly and hope for the best. Be prepared before you make the jump into this industry or any industry for that matter.

Something about the notion of trucking makes my heart rise in my chest; visiting new places, seeing new things, meeting new people. It seems to contrast my current situation - wasting away in my apartment day after day in the same crappy city with nothing to relieve me of this terrible monotony. Perhaps it's just wanderlust, but by God, the feeling is strong.
