I've always got it done same day, but I drive to the office and do it in person. I'm sure it could take months if you're mailing back and forth.

When i filed back in 2022 for mine, it took almost 4 months to get everything set up , was all by mail.. now they have everything online. But i just remember thinking i shouldve just stayed leased on while i got all the paperwork figured out because it sucks to just burn cash sitting and waiting for some government tard to file stuff and then it come back wrong multiple times

This is probably easier in the flatbed world since almost every sawmill I’ve talked to will gladly work directly with the driver. Many have a form they will email you with rates and everything you need to fill out to go to work for them.
As far as a truck, my first was a Freightliner with a recent overhaul and a lot of maintenance. Everything was documented and had paperwork to prove it. Was a good truck, though not very pretty. I would probably try the same thing again.
Basic paperwork required. DOT and MC number, 2290 heavy road tax, IFTA. There’s other things too that vary state by state. I may have forgotten some things. It would probably be worthwhile to get a company to keep you in compliance. Make sure it’s one that is also a drug and alcohol consortium to do your drug tests.
After you’ve had a year or whatever it takes, you can run off the load board. I’m sure I forgot a lot, but anyway that’s a start.

Yea,I've hauled a few loads for the saw mill and some loads for the tree cutters also. Heavy ### loads,alot of wear and tear on the truck. Need something durable for those loads. I noticed the loads dont go that far so we always took backwoods around any scales. But that was years ago. I have to get the process,step by step of how to file each one for the truck and company. Kind of a challenge doing this while working all the time but once it's done,it's done. I know the process by then

What would you say is a good safety net for maintence,insurance,fuel,and any other expense for the truck while we build it up to get another?
