Most of them might take you with less than 6 months to a year experience, but it also depends on how badly they need drivers. If they have more applicants than they can shake a stick at then they'll be a little more selective.
I know around here, I've seen YRC and SAIA advertising that you only need to be a graduate from an approved school. ABF here doesn't typically waive the experience much, if at all, but like everything else it'll depend on what the labor conditions are like in your area.
Regardless, at any LTL shop, you are likely going to be spending more time on a dock than in a truck until you get higher up the seniority "food chain".
Starting pay question.

I started out OTR .38 cpm
2800-3000 miles a week.
Home 2 days a week.
Only two companies beat that pay.....grand island express and Mercer......I'm not sure where all these drivers are making so much money at....but I'll throw in 3 lot lizards if someone gives me a clue. -
Melton* not Mercer either way its friggin pennies dudes.
.29 cents run your ### off.

OTR pay is so low because there are drivers willing or needing to accept it. The average for midsized companies is $0.46 - $0.48 and 2500 miles per week.
Mega's with high turnover tend to be able to bring down pay, and they use that number to help keep freight rates low. Personally I wouldn't take $0.32 or lower, but I respect that people do so they can at least have something. And when you are single and live on the truck, your needs differ from those with families.
LTL local jobs are cool, but some of us like the OTR lifestyle and don't want to just run the same route over and over, it's horses for courses... -
Most ltl is not the same route with the same stops over and over.
-
Either that or there's a bunch of drivers that are homeless and need a place to sleep every night
Winnyf1 Thanks this. -
