starting roehl on Feb 25th

I decided to go with Roehl because of the Honor Program/Apprenticeship Program they offer. My training is free with no obligations and I am looking forward to the steady paycheck for the first two years; it looks to be around the same amount I was receiving on active duty. I also heard a lot of great things about them; the few bad things seem to come from less than ideal individuals. Carrie, my recruiter, has been great with everything as well.

I should be leaving here around noon on Friday. I plan on pushing strait through and should be there Saturday afternoon. I told Carrie I would be leaving early in case of mechanical/weather/traffic problems along the away and she arranged for me to check-in on Saturday.

 

I have a fairly mechanically sound vehicle, but I believe in Murphy's Law and would rather have some buffer time. The weather is a bit of a concern for me as well. It seems like it should be clear all the way there, but then start snowing on Monday. Have you heard anything different? It's somewhat amusing, I have never driven in snow before and now I will be learning to drive and tractor-trailer in it. I also noticed some highway work on I-75 in Georgia too.

It seems work has been going on on I-75 in Georgia for the past decade. Some of it is really rough pavement. And DO NOT get caught speeding through one of their construction zones.

Good luck from me also!! I'm starting March 10th on the honor program so I expect you'll still be doing the training (maybe just finishing up) when I get there. Are you going all the way to Marshfield or to a different training facility? If its Marshfield, make sure to bring cold wx gear--last night it was 17 below zero here (I live in Wausau, about an hours drive away.)

I'm a life-long Florida boy, 17 above is practically a "snow day" for us.

Well, I guess if I'm gonna be a real trucker I might as well get used to it.

You can get used to it...but you'll never like it!

 

Less than ideal individuals? I would not personally be so bold as to categorize people whom I have not met as "less than ideal". Their experience may have been unpleasant, as mine was for a great while, however to label someone based on an emotional post or view someone going through financial difficulties as a result of a bad job experience may be premature, or even judgmental, on your part, sir. Granted, some posts I have found here by people who put in a whole 7 days or even a few weeks or so don't have much credibility. But none of us know the exact circumstances which they face. I am not saying to accept everything here as fact, just understand that some things are not what they seem.
Good luck with Roehl. I hope it turns out to be everything you hoped it would be. You could do much, much worse than Roehl. But, don't believe everything that you are told by a recruiter or read in a recruiting flyer. Recruiters have a job because the last people that they spoke with have quit and they needed you to take their place. (

 

Hello to all you new Roehl Drivers. I chose Roehl last August and haven't regretted it yet. They will not lie to you. I'm a flat-bedder and love the work.

I was up in northern North Dakota in January picking up a load of hay. I was 9 miles south of the Canadian border. The air temperature was -25 degrees, and the wind-chill factor was -45 degrees. That is cold - brutally cold! But here is the tip...dress for the weather! If you're going OTR, you will experience everythiing from 110 degrees to -45 degrees, and it could be within the same month! Two pairs of gloves, 2 wool hats, a rain jacket, a heavy jacket, and twice as many pairs of socks as the number of days you plan on being out. Always assume that one pair of something (everything) will be wet, and you will need dry clothing.

I love flat-bedding, and can't imagine being a dock-knocker.
