Yep ... but they fall under the Lathrop DMs. Probably will start out with Jim ... which is a good thing.

I am thinking about going to Swift Transportation, My only worries are not getting enough miles to provide for my family. I did do Local runs from a company close to home but was let go do to lack of experience. (Too many runs to New York) My DAC Report is clean so I am good on that part. Any advice for a New to OTR trucker?.... I got my CDL A back in 2010.

first you should calculate how many miles a week you need MINIMUM for your family to survive, from what I had heard a lot average 1900-2200 miles a week, some do 3k+
starting with Swift you get a whole $0.25 a mile and increase throughout the year up to like $0.32 after a year.
So lets say you can get 2k miles a week, thats $500 a week BEFORE taxes, deductions etc so you might be taking home around $400 depending on your situation, so just ask yourself if you can survive the minimum starting out.
Swift will have you do a road test as an experienced driver to see how well you can double shift, back a trailer etc, based on the test they will decide if you need training with a mentor or get your own truck.

Other factors, if you team you can make a little more, if you have hazmat you can make a tad more etc. Swift is a good starter company for experience but as a company driver dont expect to become rich. I have talked to a few company drivers who do very well and some not too well, same for owner ops but Swift wont let you be an owner op for a few months unless you already own a truck or I was told buy one outside of Swift and bring it in.

cool why you have to wait so long to go? school full or personal? im waiting on my bkg check to get back and hopefully will be starting there soon (local guy) called recruiter on tues day like she said which was 1 week after app and when veronica said to call to check but she than said call by friday. how long did it take for you to get cleared?

I dont think swift is that bad of a company and how it goes for you depends on attitude and your ability to deal with things that cant be controlled. but that is most starter company's IMO.

I requested for it to be put out after I was cleared an extra week so I could go get my DOT physical. Had to go out of town and was much cheaper for bus fairs if i got it ahead of time. so was really due to financial reasons. I'm cleared and get my ticket to Phoenix tomorrow from what I heard from my recruiter.

Good luck, I will probably be heading over to the Phoenix terminal after I make my drop Friday, need to get a 34 in since I wont be picking up enough hours the following days plus have to go turn stuff into safety etc

Ah fun stuff. I'm down to being curious if our rooms have wifi or an ethernet jack to work with for out of class time. But I leave saturday, arrive sunday assuming of course greyhound doesnt do its normal delays.

The rooms are now back over at Premier, no free wifi, you can buy it for 5 a day or 24 for 7 days, the speed is pretty decent, you can stream netflix and whatnot, also the rooms are just single standard hotel rooms, expect bunks beds, a small fridge, and microwave. There is a computer in the lobby with free internet access. Upside; the staff are much more friendly at the hotel and there is almost no one else at the hotel besides Swift students and drivers. Its an improvement over Legacy.

Swift School offers the minimum knowledge to get your CDL-A and nothing more. They assume you will learn everything from a mentor if you work for Swift afterward I suppose.

Just keep your head in the game and get your CDL-A, good luck man.
