plus you have to add in commentary which screws peoples concentration up, it did for me a tad bit.
Dont worry though if it takes you some time, I have seen people even after a mentor who couldnt shift, one of the mentors on this board just had a problem with a guy who could not shift even after like 100 hours, he might post about it

you will do fine, the biggest thing is to relax, I know its hard to relax when you have an instructor sitting next to you but if you can do it then it will make it so much easier, when you get flustered it only makes things worse. I know the first time I was in the city I made a mistake and he raised his voice (didnt yell) they raise voice to make sure you hear them I then got nervous and my shifting and stuff started to be effected for about 10minutes until I relaxed myself back down.

Just take your time especially when turning, dont be stupid and hit a parked truck like I did when I first went solo :p
Learn from your mistakes and move on

Strangly I relax more with the instructor next to me than solo right now. Also I learn very well from mistakes. Stqrted to understand the basics of shifting gears (only reverse, low, 1st and 2nd). But I learn fast generally, because every mistake I learn from. Only thing that gets me is difficult to think after around noon or 1pm because of temps.

you will always have heat out there, I know at the Academy your constantly in the heat though.
I know yesterday I was pouring sweat dropping a load and hooking up another in the humid hot texas heat.
I wanted to get out of Oregon and Washington a little over a week ago since I didnt like driving in some of it but now I want to go back since it was so much cooler lol
at night I opened the windows to the truck and it was in the 40's which was nice, at least tonight im in Colorado and it says the low is 51, was 100 earlier today.
