Thanks dracon, treat others as you want to be treated and the majority of the time you will not have any problems. Glad to here that your getting the miles how long did it take to get your own truck after you were done with the mentor.

Tmax, congrats on your new career in trucking. As a fleet owner I am here to tell you. As you know with your work history and RULES OF OPERATION a company has to be strict and hard on employees for many many reasons. Employees have no idea or either don't care about what their employer has invested in just to supply a job to make money for themselves and for the worker to make a living. You are a military man and you know all too well about chain of commands. In other words so many drivers have made it bad for someone like you that has a good work ethic and a positive outlook. They will not care about how hard you work and will not care if they have to let you go. This is all companies including mine. They look at as this is what you're supposed to do cause you need the job to take of you and your loved ones. Sure it goes a long way and your driver manager may look out for you cause you're dependable but he or she has only that power. The power to keep you running. It makes his or her board look good. So my advice to you is get a year in buy your own truck from a real truck dealer not one of those wanna be lease operators and buy a reefer trailer and get some real pay.

Thanks fleetowner33, I will keep your advice in mind. I know about the mindset of the companies its a shame that more companies don't understand that there most valuable asset is there employee. Keep them happy, challenge when needed and your company will succeed.

Nckid hello, we had a guy in my class that already had his CDL but he still went thru the 18 days of the academy. They told us here in Phoenix there is almost a 1 to 2 months wait for the flatbed division. Not enough mentors.

I have never said this on here " But this is BS ". These big companies are treating people like pond scum. So you are saying it is my fault when I started with Swift that another employee that was a total racist and DM did nothing about it that it is my fault. Also I should be grateful they gave me a job and kiss there butt that they crapped on me. They pay 3rd world country wages just to line there own greedy pockets.

TruckerGsch I have had good bosses and bad bosses good co-workers and bad co-workers its the nature of the beast. It's called life, my father and mother taught me treat others with respect they instilled in me a good moral character. We all learn from our parents its are choice to listen and learn and unfortunately some parents teach wrong behaviors. But its the individuals Choice how he or she will perform in society. A company hires me and you and others I make a choice to treat others with respect, Thats My choice not the companys. Well isn't a company made up of people like you and me and others? It's a choice its the same in all companies. It's starts at the top and filters down got a good CEO and good management company will go far got a bad one and you do the math. Do I have expectations yes I do, I am new, I will do what is needed to help the company succeed. We all must do it take the good with the bad change what we can and realize regardless there are people who make a choice to treat you a certain way. As for me you get a smile and a friendly hello. As for the big companies I mean what can be said? I have to start somewhere right? I wish I could say well these are the working conditions and the salary and the days off I want( LOL ) Yeah Right! It is what it is if you have experience then you have choices agree?

Swift and other starter companies all realize that the majority of their employees are only there to gain more experience to move on to other carriers that pay more.

I did a lot of research before choosing Swift, because from talking with the people who had gone through the training and the few years here, it seems that this company is more of a "pay your dues" one (as they ALL are) instead of "getting uncessessarily crapped on" like some others.

EVERY starter company will have its own BS...it just depends on what flavor of it you can stomach. FWIW, I've been through the academy here in Phoenix about a month ago, and I've had two issues so far that have been solved in a very quick, timely manner.

    tmax156 Thanks this.
