Ok day two of orientation more paperwork and lots of videos. Couple of guest speakers one on security and one on trip planning. I have decided to do teams met a gentleman here who has a lot of experienc
e in the industry (10 years) and has run team and solo. I look at this as being the second string quarterback in football where I can watch and learn from the starter if you get what I mean. He will be like a second mentor and plus make little more money.

Yes your schooling is paid off the first year and the second year they pay you back so you owe nothing out of pocket. I did my research on Swift and other companies listen to the pros and cons on this forum and came up with my on conclusion. Yes the pay is low to start but that happens the majority of the time when your new and no experience. Second they are the biggest carrier with big time clients Walmart, Target, Home Depot, General Mills to name a few. So that's miles and this is what its about time will only tell if the cons will ring true. But in my 48 years of life on this earth and working 32 of them its safe to say I had some pay issues happen, bad supervisors, bad co-workers who hasn't? And bad pay almost forgot that one but you know I worked hard look for opportunities to get promoted and did what was needed. Am I saying I never complain No I am not but I learn how to play the game.

Tmax glad to see you're still thrilled about your new venture. Let me give you another piece of advice. When it comes to truck drivers believe none of what you hear and little of what you see. Rarely would a 10 year veteran choose swift to work for unless they have a gravy dedicated run or the person has been with swift for 10 years. Don't get me wrong I know plenty of people who've been with swift forever. As a matter of fact my uncle is also a fleet owner and all his trucks are with swift. I'm only reading your posts and I don't even know you but I'm excited for you and I don't know why lol. Do yourself this favor check him out thoroughly. If he is real then your plan sounds great to gain experience ...good luck

How many trucks does your friend have? Is that a good way to form your own company within one? Day three of orientation also was about being a owner operater but really it is a lease it looks good but not for me. Maybe later after I get all the info and talk to other L/Os and get the real deal if you know what I mean.Last edited: Jul 14, 2011

Thanks fleetowner33
That's exactly what he is planning to do be a fleet owner within Swift. Ok day three of orientation lots more videos a couple tear jerkers one about a wife whose husband was killed by a swift driver. I was alittle disappointed and little worried because I didn't get a driver's code yet. Which means your hired and can go out with a mentor. There was a glitch in the system and told me to go home and call back today at 10am and not to worry, I wasn't the only one but its human nature to do so because if I don't get hired I have a CDL but know experience and owe swift a boat load of money. Anyway prayed about and gave it all to Jesus! -
Well still waiting to be driver coded so last night decided to study for the AZ hazmat . Took the test this morning and ace it. Just need to do the TSA background check and get fingerprinted and have my hazmat endorsement.

Hi fleetowner33
Been out on the rode since Saturday, I love it!! We pick up a load in Tolleson,AZ . Its going to Atlanta,Ga. I have driven only 145 miles on Saturday, 512 on Sunday and 620 on Monday. This is great the 4 wheelers not so great, we are delivering Tuesday and if Saturday at the shipper didn't take forever we would have made good time. The fleet stuff sounds interesting but I don't have the capital to do that my partner does. Fleetowner33 he got started today loading in California. My mentor has 9 months OTR. (Smile) but he is a good guy and I am a sponge so we are a good fit even through he my lack experience he has 9 more months then I do.
