My dh will be starting on 7/28/14. Please share your first week experience from training. This is a brand new career/life change for him as well.
First week is mostly classroom you'll be filling out forms doing physicals lifting the lumber tarp going over benefits etc also doing lots of tests on general knowledge, company policy, fmcsr policy, math, and load securement later. near the end of the week you'll go to load securement for 2-3 days where they teach you what all the type of equipment is and how to use it, then they give you stuff on a pallet to secure with a group. All during this time your going to be on the simulators. Final week is road/yard training. Theirs a couple bad eggs on road instructors who just aren't pleasant people but there also are some amazing ones, depends who you get. Road driving is 4 days you'll do country driving, highway rolling hill driving, downtown Des Moines driving, and button hook. Yard training is simple 45, 90, serpentine, figure 8, pull through, straight line back. All in all good experience and learned a ton.
