Anybody considering Roehl better read this thread and give it some thought . http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/roehl/76617-mpgs.html Does Roehl terminate drivers that don't meet the MPG expectations ? Is that why they are always hiring ? Is it an excuse to terminate newbies and bill them for training ?

Sigh...Roehl did away with the contract for training three or four years ago. They made an intensive push to get fuel mileage up across all fleets. When the push started I was around five and change a gallon. When I left I was in the mid eights and was my dispatcher's poster boy for it. They made clear that while they didn't want to lose anyone due to lousy fuel economy the status quo had to change. They did the things on their end that they could do ie Webascos and apus and ordering efficent trucks. That is more than most of the driver mills can claim.
I have maintained that if I ever get tired of the tanker yanking I would not hesitate to go back to Roehl. I had nine years there and for the last several I had no trouble clearing over 70k per year.RickG Thanks this. -
$70k a year? You bring your own truck in, train people, pull flatbed, and stay well clear of the hazmat license? Because if I did all that I'd be around $70k.
-
And how much of that $70k would go to truck expenses ?
-
Hah. Good one. But he did say "Clearing over $70k a year."
Remember back when this thread about about orientation? -
How about some current miles from your Roehl drivers. I'm a flatbedder at heart but it looks like non of the flat companies are getting any freight. I hate dry van but you have to pull what you can keep full of freight. I Started out with Millis back in 2001 and it was a good starting place. I used to always envy the Roehl equipment. It always looked better maintained and more professional.
Any good mileage numbers??? -
I am getting 2500-3000 a week. I run the hometime fleet out of Garland Texas.

kebo, so you run flat? I'm still under contract to the government until june but if those miles maintain for the most part until then, I think I may have found my new home.

I'm averaging 2000 per week this year. This is the first time in months that I've run out of hours. But I don't understand why anyone would want to pull a flat. Maybe that's the difference.
