If I am driving down the rode, in wet rainy weather gripping the wheel with two hands and I see an accident unfold in front of me. As a newbie my self, I am going to make sure that I maintain control of my rig. Slow up and avoid the wreck.
Not grabbing the mic and chatting it up about what others should do. First drive your own rig. Then help out when necessary and you can safely do so.

I am a little late adding to this thread. But I just finished reading it. I see it the way Tonka did.

60 yards =180 feet there are 5280 feet in a mile 45 MPH= 66 feet per second. That's 2.727 seconds to impact, or avoid the wreck.

Tonkatruck thank you for the continues thread of info.

Hey Zoolue in the real world of driving a truck, we don't think about feet per second and other quoted facts from books in school. You move so fast that you don't have time to think and therefore you just react. You're right in worrying about yourself stopping and if you're looking down the road far enough, you'll have time to react. The other thing is to be a good driver and let everyone that's listening know what you saw so they can avoid it too and have a chance to slow down too...that's all we're saying......

Hey Tonka, I respect everyone's opinions but it seems that we are getting off track, Could we get this conversation back to how your driving is going, and what new experiences you are having. I know everyone has an opinion about things that are said, but this is about Tonka and his experience as a newbie in the industries and driving for GTI. I loved how he and others inform us new drivers and soon to be drivers about what he is doing out there and what he is experiencing, so we will have an idea of what to expect out there. Keep up the great blogging Tonka. I really like it.

Hey folks sorry it has been awhile, I have my adv. miles for first month and it has worked out to 2750 per week, not to bad for a start, been staying kinda close (midwest),

there are lots of things, I need to work on and thing that can speed me up, lol,

some of the pick ups, it is getting quicker cause now I know what they want when I get there, ( sweptout, or Pick up numbers off the qualcom, just little things they like that the others don't need,

and when doing a pretrip, lol I missed somthing that the scale found, my front plate had came off, man I was worried when they found that I thought ooooooh shi# but, it was a fix it ticket.. and I let the D.M. know as it happened and by time we were done they had faxed a new plate and paper worked and I was good to go..

I take the truck in this week to get mait., done.. (18000) check up and have a couple petty things I would like added lol

there are some very hairy places that people want trucks to back into and get loaded lolol the ones I find (hard or a pain ) to do are in the day light back into a building to a dock in a doorway that holds 2 trucks and thats all that fits and you back into a dark hole hahaha getting better

oh yeah remember to open your trailor doors first LOLOL I have forgot acouple times ( what an dumb a@#) and slide your tandoms if needed,

I'll talk at ya soon and tell ya how my first mait., goes

    stay safe

yes they do have training if you have your cdl all ready no school persay.

sorry about the long time posting, here are some stats:

I am adv., 2600 miles year to date will, feb, till now

I had my first flat on the road, loaded, lolol in Indiana mile marker 15, glad I paid attion to that, ( I guess qualcom can find you if needed) and get this, it only took 1 hour from time of the blow out till the time I was rolling,
I was very lucky.. ooh if ya want to know right side outside first drive tire..

taking the truck in this wed. to get 18000 mile oil and have it check out ( at 1200 rpm or 55 ) underload it wants to chug, and it is bugging me, other than that not a bad truck..

I started a dang file card for these deliverys, some people want the drop trailer tandoms at the 3rd hole some all the way back some at the 5th hole and so on and they get mad if you screw it up, so I now ask all the time , some want them sweep out and some want 1 door open or none...
    LOL yeah never know,

I am picking up speed now with getting there and knowing what they want and where stuff is,and the qualcom, doing it over and over , for a dumb person like me it takes time,

ooh and if you can stay the heck away from denver purina, hard to get to and they are the rudest people I have ever meet, and the Piolet truck stop NOT SAFE , lol just my 2 cents lolo

    HAPPY EASTER

I am curious tonka what made you feel unsafe about that truck stop? I am from CA so I would not know, just curious why your inner alert when off?

Sounds like your getting along. Is driving everything you thought it would be?

Tonka, The next time your in Denver, try the T/A in Wheat Ridge, 5 miles West, Bigger, more room, and safer. If you go there early enough the best parking is behind the service shop on the way to the exit. The Purina loads are ok once you understand their procedures.

Since you have internet, when your going to a new shipper/receiver, after you get the Mac5 do a mapquest to get a visual on your approach, and the satellite view will even show tire tracks for best way in and out at the facilities. Keep Safe
