I was offered a job with Werner last week. Now I just found out that GTI has reviewed my application, and is sending it on to final review. I spoke to my recruiter's assistant and she said they are waiting so they can get more trainers. She said it could take 3 - 4 weeks. That is fine considering I'm living on unemployment, but does this seem normal? How long did it take most of you to get on with GTI? I just want to make sure that I'm not spinning wheels here and a month from now they turn me down. I really don't want to go with Werner but they have offered already, so I wonder if it's worth waiting.
P.S. Thanks TonkaTruck for the info on what to bring.

Yes, it is worth the wait. More $, More miles, and better work conditions IMHO. I waited almost two months to get to orientation and the 10 more days for the trainer. We are very busy right now, no shortage of freight, so your patience will pay off if you have been totally honest in your application.

Hang in there. I was in almost the exact same position. It took about a month for the application process to complete. I could barely get a hold of anyone. So getting frustrated I accepted with Werner. Next day Gordon called and said that I had been approved and scheduled for oreintation on the 16th. I cancelled Werner immediatly.

A week goes by and no word, no communication, no one seems to have a definitive answer.

Today Valerie from the Rancho terminal calls me and says that they have lined up a trainer for me as two people have dropped out of the program. So I am to go monday for drug test/DOT physical and road test, followed by orientation tuesday. Then 28 days training.

    (sigh of relief)

I think that they are very careful about how they do business and it does sound like they have a shortage of trainers too (which has gotta be a good thing)

Hi Folks, yes it is worth the wait, I just found out that they just took on 12 more new hires and that will take the trainers about 2-5 weeks (depends on exper.)

next a funny but sad thing happened 3 day's ago, I was bob tailing down 57 in Ill. and it was raining kinda hard, so I was going about 45-50 mph the speed was 55 , and I was watching the road ahead of me and there was a Roehl truck behind me (bobtail also) ######## on the C.B. "lets go Gordon " "come on move it" ok you get it. Now I see up the road a flat bed take the Arsonel road exit and jack knife so I slowed down (not hitting my brakes) but slow down ... this "driver" shoots around me flips me off and cuts me off, and hits his brakes hard, cause the Van in front of me was stoped... Yep He plows right into the rear of it and knocks her right into another truck... smashed the crap out of her van and rip his bumper and lights right off his truck... a few comments from other drivers aimed at him
made me laugh, but, I felt so bad for the van, (she and the 2 others where not hurt to bad )

so the lesson drive smart (smith system) does work and don't get pressured by others, you drive your truck .... be safe I was on time for my load he was not..

They are short on trainers because the turn over rate is through the roof. The indy and greenbay terminals are full of empty trucks. I added mine to the collection. There are no miles to be had in the midwest unless you are a trainer or buds with a planner. I could not be happier with my new company, dedicated run five days a week, home every weekend and more money in five days than I made with gordon in seven. Also gordon now has an ad in the truck stop rag looking for drivers. That tells you the direction of the company. Good luck to all of the gordon drivers, hope you dont have bills to pay and if you do head west.

Thanks Yatista, Okieron, Jimbo and Tonka. I really appreciate the words of advice and encouragement. CornerCarver, there are not many people out there that say that about GTI, most praise the company, and I have heard that the west coast gets a lot of miles. I have no idea yet, but that's what a lot of other truckers are saying.

Jimbo - you and I are pretty much on the same track. I have been speaking with Val as well, actually Lorra her assistant, I can never get a hold of Val she is always too busy. ------ Good Luck out there Jimbo..------

You need to come out to the midwest and talk to drivers and not trainers, they get there miles. Unless you go out west and stay out for weeks at a time you starve. I had drivers come up to me at the terminal when cleaning out my truck and tell me how lucky I was for being able to leave. You dont work there yet, so dont tell me there are no unhappy drivers. I would also say hope you get a truck thats not in the shop evry two weeks like mine was and it was a 2007 with only 390k.

Also tonka, why is an accident funny to you and why did you not try and prevent it by telling the Roehl driver what was up ahead. BAD JUDGEMENT on your part neewbe. Alkso whats your truck number so if I see you out there I can get the h!!! away from you. Keep it safe, remember
