The deck is stacked against new drivers being successful as a business owner in trucking. Leasing is starting and operating a new business. ONLY 1 OUT OF 5 MAKE IT THROUGH TO THE END OF THEIR FIRST LEASE!!!! Most of those folks financially crash and burn in their first year. There is so much to know about this industry, how to drive a truck, where to drive the truck, how the dang thing works so you even can intelligently maintain it... and the list goes on... before you can begin to be a successful business owner and lease op.
Anyone reading this... I'm not telling you that leasing is all bad. I'm telling you the best way to go about it is to be smart about it. Drive for a couple of years on the company side, and learn how to be a trucker before you stake your financial future on a truck lease. Heck... you guys don't even know if you can stand being a trucker, so why would you want to tie a commitment like a truck lease around your neck? You can jump to the lease side in an instant, but you can't go back to the company side unless you have a fleet manager who is willing to take you back. Do yourself a huge favor... wait on the decision to lease a truck.Dodgerfan82 Thanks this.
