Im currently in training with Werner dollar general account out of south Boston,va it sucks for the first 80 hours or so it will take you up to 2 1/2 weeks to get there, then it's night driving I'm talking about 10 1/2 to 11 hours driving a day plus you must help unload at least one stop. The hours that I did on my first week I did them in 2 days after the curfew was over. About the pay.... I haven't seen a check less than 400 since I get unload pay for helping my trainer and I got the per diem. The only problems that I see with Werner is that their p387's have some minor issues with the doors and will put you out of service if you are not careful and try to put newbies like me to work on accounts that require a lot of backing and I think it just a quick way to get a accident on your dac report. Also they can run you to death 3200 miles last week. Looking forward getting my truck soon and go 48 or regional northeast.

If you think about it, it only makes sense that runs going to small stores are going to require large amounts of backing. Plus if you are getting a lower amount of pay, you would want as many miles as possible.

I would not go as I have tried myself but they dont keep in touch and I got left in a hotel for a week so I left it wasnt any fun at all

i worked for them back in 2003 for about a year, had a pretty decent dedicated run and was home most weekends. then i got a job with a local company have have been there every since, you will have to get used to sitting in the motel for your training and waiting to be assigned a truck. i spent what seemed like forever waiting, and when i finally got assigned a truck i had to take a greyhound bus from indy to danville va. that was the longest 18hrs ever, not telling you what to do but if you do pick them i would just stay till you get some experience and find something better.

I went to Dallas orientation for 2 or 3 days. After waited 1 1/2 days for trainer to arrive. It was week after Christmas and trainer took a load away from terminal in snowy conditions.Otherwise I would have not waited that long.Thiss was 2009. I'm glad I got the trainer I did. He taught me a lot and was a super guy. Watch your hours. Toward the end of my required to get off trainer truck, they started shorting my hours. When solo OTR I took whatever was offered me. Towed the company line and got decent miles. I had 2 breakdowns that took a long time to get approved and where to go to get resolved. Those waits sucked. Be patient as a rookie and it will get better with time with your DM. I had an accident after 4 moths and was terminated. I had a good experience though. Wish I was trucking now but no one will hire with the accident and termination.

Bandit if you don't mind me asking, explain your accident in detail.

sales tax....

yes they take taxes out of all pay checks an if werner buys the bus ticket no they don't take money out for that.

I started with werner 10 yrs ago.Every rookie company has its bad and good.My first trainer was a nasty pervert, when they called me I told them he didnt take a shower for a week.Werner sent us to the nearest terminal and I got a great trainer. The other trainer did not get anymore trainees. There are stupid drivers everywhere including this forum. Most will be helpful to you soo dont get discouraged by the worthless comments
