If he drifted over, the big If,,I get so tired of some 4 wheelers setting you up,almost hoping that something like this will happen to the truckdriver. We must constantly work to change our image as I have said many times over the past 5 or 6 years. I have tried to get over way ahead of time in the past, the 4 wheeler driver plays you,you slow down to a safe speed so as not to cause vehicles behind you to have a wreck and that driver next to you keeps you locked in by speeding up and slowing down on you. Your ###### if you stop fast and switch lanes if you can, while hoping you don't cause a wreck behind you at the same time,no matter you are going to be blamed. I get tired of other truckers not letting you over also, these are probably the same attitudes or drivers that are in the 4 wheelers locking you in.Nowadays,as soon as I see the lights,I change laes, even if its two miles or more ahead of me,or at night if there is a light show of lights from an emergency vehicle I get into the left or middle lane if there are three lanes,if two,I get all the way to the left and put 4 ways on,and sometimes blow the air horn to warn others of whats up front. I would rather scare them a little than have that officer maimed or killed by these drivers.Hopefully the squad car camera caught on film what actually took place. You state troopers out there.please change your safety standards for us,that cop and that driver have their lives changed forever thru this trajedy. I also say congress should make it standard procedure ,when a vehicle has to be ticketed or checked out,the police car driver should pull to the right as far if not on the right of that vehicle, and instantly throw a flare or two out behind the stopped car or truck, and deal with those drivers completely from the right, while it may be a little riskier for that officer as far as felons ,being on the right could save life and limbs out there.

It is sad and very tragic when something like this happens. The driver will never live it down. Then again, I don't think ticketing on a freeway should be allowed.
If there is someone engaging in unsafe acts on a freeway, they should be followed into the next rest area or to an off ramp and then stopped where they are off the highway and in a relative safe place.
Far too many tickets are issued for speed alone and have nothing to do with safety. That is nothing more than revenue collection. The old Basic Speed Laws should be the rules on open highways, and that means people have to drive according to traffic, weather, and highway conditions.)
Too much control from control freaks and those who just seek revenue for the government should not be condoned or allowed. Who will change the laws to reflect such policies? No one! This cops life means nothing to Congress. Dito for the Driver! They are just two pawns in a game of chance. -
My brother stopped on the side of I-5 years ago to check his load. It seems he was having some kind of problem with it. Another driver hit him and killed him. The driver showed sleeping in a rest area just down the road, but there was no reason for him to hit my brother. He was not charged.
We always take for granted rules and regulations are there for protection, but the protection comes from the common sense level of the person or people themselves. Why should government have to regulate everything we do? It did not save my brother.
The sad thing is, this driver will live with this for the rest of his life, but the States themselves could change policies on when and where to stop people and save themselves from such tragedies. -

The truck driver's career is basically over. The trooper is going to need therapy. The truck driver will NEVER forget it, and most I know would not be able to forgive themselves. And for what? Because the cop couldn't wait to get that car off the road? Because he couldn't remember to walk around to the PASSENGER side of the car? Because a truck driver couldn't stop when he really should have?
And what about the driver of the car that was stopped? How is this person gonna handle this? Is this person going to blame themselves. ("It was my fault the trooper was hit because I was the person he pulled over, and if he hadn't pulled me over he wouldn't have been in the truck's path.....")
And what was all this in pursuit of? The Trooper and the Truck Driver were both chasing the Almighty Dollar! WAS IT WORTH IT?

I don't know how anyone could survive being hit by a truck. However, anyone witnessing such an event had to have been in shock for a while.
As far as the dollar is concerned, the truck driver is out there for that purpose. The police are supposed to be there for safety. However, these things should not happen and can be avoided with a little common sense. -
If, If ! I can't say, as I was not there and don't have the facts to determine what should have or could have made for a different outcome. However, we all know, at highways speeds things can happen very fast. -
Since when is "common sense" common anymore, Lucky?
