State with highest chain requirement

I have looked online for guidance and I used the search bar to try and find it here. Can you guys show me where to find the regulation/guidance that tells you what the chain laws are for each state? Is there a website that shows them all?

Nevada 365 days a year, Colorado sept 1 to may 1 specifically hwy 70 between mm 150 to 250 idk some where around there, the rest idk

 

I want to clarify that i am most curious about how many chains i need to put on the drives per each state. I have read i only need 1 per each dual and 1 pair on a trailer in Washington. Is that the highest amount of chains required?

 

Carry 4 singles for the drives and 2 singles for the trailer. And ur good in every state.

 

Max chains in Cali is 6 drive tires chained.

 

Serious ? Ive always thrown 4 singles and 2 drags . Never had a problem with chp.

 

Either way sounds like 6 is all you need anywhere.

 

All the years I’ve ran out there I’ve never seen them enforce the maximum. But it would suck to be in a bad storm and not have them if they did.



All the years I ran the NW and then out to CA I carried one set of three railers and two sets of single. I never wasted my time throwing a bunch of single on the drives, it was always three railers. If you get in a bind you can dig down to pavement with them, they won’t leave you spinning on top once your inside tires are on the snow pack.

 

Sometimes CA can require all tires on the front drive axle be chained in addition to the previous requirements for the other axles. But from what I've seen, usually if conditions are that bad, they close the road instead.

WA also requires you to carry 2 spare chains in the event that your chains break or fall off.

WY requires only 2 total chains, on opposite ends of the same drive axle.

UT requires 1 chain on every wheel end of every drive axle.

ID is 1 tire on each side of any drive axle, and 1 tire on each side of any trailer axle.

MT requires all tires of one drive axle.

 

This is good stuff here, i was planning to buy both drive axles all 4 tires and a single pair for the drag and a single pair for the extra requirement in WA is that overkill?

 

You can't have too many chains. I've had to double chain drivers to get up hills with maxis & B trains. What was I thinking. FLD is right about the 3 railers.
