Stater Bros. in California. Big chain with supermarkets all over San Bernadino and Riverside counties. They expect truckers to unload the loads or pay for the lumpers to do so. Then the lumpers tried to load all the empty pallets back on hubby's trailer. They told him it was "policy". He told them a few basic truths and hell will freeze over before he takes any loads into there again. He told them that he had to pay them to unload the crap, but if they put one foot on the trailer to try and load the empty pallets he would call a cop and have them charged with trespass. They got the message. He won't be going back there, period.

Not sure how long your hubby has been driving trucks but Stater Bros in Southeren California is no different than any of the big grocers Safeway, Mcclanes, Wal Mart, U S Foods that is the way it is at these receivers. As for the empty pallets what is the big deal he can just sell them relax.

Be careful refusing pallets. Most grocery loads are pallet exchange. WalMart,Costco,Assoc Grocers. If they didn't put the pallets back on the trailer, don't be surprised if your settlement shows up with a deduction for the pallets. Happens to drivers more than you know. The company should tell you if it's pallet exchange or not and what to do with the pallets if they put them back on your trailer. Never did like it, think it's a crock, BUT that's between the shipper, trucking co. and the receiver. If they charge you for the pallets sell them to someone. Should be able to get bwteen $3-$5 apiece. If the load is on CHEP pallets no problem. CHEP pallets are painted blue and very easy to ID.

So where does one "sell" the pallets when he has to go to 4 other places to pick up produce to take up to a major company in Calgary-actually they are the main reason he is in Cal. in the first place, the load down from BC to Stater was just to offset the fuel. He has taken US loads into Costco up here with no issue. I will make sure that he asks his co. about the pallet issue-but he can, and will, refuse anything that goes to Stater from now on.

There's tons of places in Fontana thet buy/sell pallets. Even at $3 per, he would have made lunch money.

And those pretty blue skids are supposed to go directly back to CHEP. Had one of their reps stop in at work asking if we had any of their pallets. Boss told him no but told him of a place two blocks away with a lot of the blue skids mixed in with regular ones. Guess the guy never stopped off because all of their pallets are still there. Heh.
