"Some" Forrest Service,Border Patrol,TX DPS,County Sheriff's and DEA Task Force
do in fact run converted 10 meter radio's and or rigs exceeding 4 watts.
Just like they run over the speed limit, illegal window tint, use issued vehicles
    for personal business . . . . . the list is long

Bottom line is "Law" like the US Constitution is now very diluted and grey
Folks will do what they want,if I want to walk my horse down Main St after
10:00 am I'm going to do it knowing it is a violation/offense

If someone in a "Official Position" wants to live cross-wise to FCC they will do it
and likely never be questioned due to "their position".

AGAIN! you come with the Legalistic Zelot BS!
You work in florida for a Sherrif Dept. BFD! its not the only LEA in the United States.
"Your LE Towers" are freqeuntly blocked out in terrain most fires are the worst. Heavy Equiptment requires communication that doesnt fail,
outside of Sat phones nothing beats 3-400 Illegal watts
of "get-out power".Its working whether Bruce likes
    it or not.:biggrin_25521:

Wanna bust the riff raff in the truckin biz? you have to sound like a trucker to do that.Illegal 10 meter rigs serve them well
in busting lizards, fuel and dope peddlers

So you think LEA's will just let some "Driver" do such install's ?
:biggrin_25523: much smarter as well as experienced then
    quoteing Big m: "everybody thinks?

    Must be alot more to the story . . . . . .

We will be up "on" your turf tonight working the walking stick.

    From the internet .....

In Indianapolis the Radio Pirates Were Cops

You wouldn’t have heard them on the AM or FM dial, but amateur radio operators in Indianapolis heard them loud and clear. Indianapolis police officers were heard on the 2-meter VHF amateur radio band using it for both personal and professional communications, littered with naughty words not allowed on the broadcast airwaves. The problem with this is that the cops didn’t have the amateur radio licenses necessary to use those bands. That’s why the Indy police department was motivated to take away their cops’ transceivers after getting complaints from local hams.
Of course, this situation begs the question of why the cops felt the need to have a second 2-way radio in the first place, given that police departments have their own set of frequencies set aside for just their use. Makes a person wonder just what, besides profanities, the cops were talking about on the 2-meter band that they didn’t want to talk about over normal police frequencies."

There IS no use of illegal radios by police not to say some cop does not have his OWN radio. A officr CAN have a legal CB in his car the SO can be fined by the FCC for any illegal use of a radio.

I recall hearing about that, its been acouple few years though
Point is still, incidents like this one go unpunished and the use of illegal radio's
is a grass roots thing that will never be controled.

The cops felt the need for "quite channels" aside from standard Com
to conduct"Police Business" on their terms.Be it 2 Meter or Coffee shop
they will do what Cops do.

Apparantly some think they are.My local PD uses a VHF maritime freq as one of their "discrete" frequencies and also use it for idle ####-chat.This is probably done through out the county as the county handles all the public safty programming, at the county and local level.
