With the recent changes I would not recommend Roehl's o/o program. Even with the boost in rates it doesn't make up for the increased fuel cost from their discontinued "you pay, what we pay" fuel discount program. Some drivers get good miles, but most struggle to get what they need to run a thriving business.
As far as reefer, I have no direct knowledge. They got into reefer by buying out other companies so upper management isn't that familiar with the business, in fact at one time they had flatbed and reefer under the same umbrella. It seems to me they should have combined reefer and van together like Crete/Shaeffer. Whether you were van or reefer you could cover either.
If to make Roehl look good you have to compare them to Covenant, England, JB Hunt and other "Worst Companies to Work For," you aren't saying much about Roehl. That's like saying, "Roehl really stinks, except for all the others." I have always given Roehl a letter grade of "C." As my dad always said, "That makes them mediocre, which is the best of the worst, or the worst of the best. Either way, it's nothing to brag about."
Stay away from ROEHL!!

I would have to second Preacherman's opinion, I too would not recommend Roehl at least not the lease purchase side, I am losing 150-200$ from the mess with the fuel discount and the pay raise would give me back 66$ lol
After Dan passed they started charging tolls more (294 vs 94), took away the discount from venders, now everything has to go thru Roehl for a markup and good luck getting any core charges back. then the fuel discount (or lack of), no telling whats next on the chopping block
With Roehls style of dispatch there will be problems ocassionally, not every load is the greatest but you have to have a very good reason to not want it. and they will push for you to take that load anyways, I lost track of how many times I heard "freights slow", "or your #3 on the list"
Not worth fighting for 2150 miles a week any more, I just did a figure up and for 54 weeks this year thats all it came up to be. and I can only think of 3 lds I refused all year
I will be trying this weekend to figure up my numbers for the whole year and get them posted somewhere on here.
I am not trying to dis Roehl as an overall company they do have there good points ( the few they do have) they are cosistant on some things and when I was a company driver, I did fairly well lasting 10 years overall between the 2.
Ok rant over. Thankfully I am on my way out the door and jan 5th will start a whole new year ! -
The company I'm with now is a mess, so many things are done wrong. But we've got miles, our elog drivers are turning close to 3400 per week. The lease guys down here, from what I'm hearing, don't like it much. We run a $.99 fuel program, sounds great until you violate any of the criteria and then it starts to nickle and dime you to death. But we've got nice equipment and tons of miles.

I've always worked on commissions or something like that (unless I was doing volunteer kind of work for expenses) and you have to look at averages so you don't go crazy either spending or worrying.
Honestly, I cannot tell you if I will LOVE trucking or not... I like driving my Camaro cross country (that is what I do on vacation -- just drive) but it might not be the same... I dunno

How about some substance to back up your blanket statement !

I stand by my earlier posts about Roehl. It's a good place to start. If you need predictable hometime, then the hometime fleets are great. If you want to grow as a truck driver then you will find yourself out growing the company within a couple of years.
roehl929 Thanks this. -
I am new to all this and am checking out all the companies that I can. I've checked out a couple of companies so far and Roehl seems like the best so far. I think that I've knocked CR England out of the running with just what I've read on here. Any help or info would be great!! Thanks!!

Yes, Roehl is definitely not a bottom feeder company. Do not go with CR England!
