I think I did ok choosing them as a training company. But now I will see how this local gig goes for a while , but I may end up back OTR . I find it kind of addicting being out there. I could just do without the east coast.

I agree you can do a heck of alot worse than Roehl for a starter company. I did pretty well with them for the 2 years I was there. But after that I went local hauling fuel then hauling CO2 for awhile and after 2 years of that im back on the road running as a system driver hauling Bulk Plastic. Just couldn't stay away, atleast now its twice the money I made with Roehl and home every other weekend.
But overall, I would and do recommend Roehl to many newbies wanting to get out here. Just always remember its a "Starter Company" and will never be as good of smaller companies.
But I guess everyone has different experiences lol -
I was going to go to orientation with Roehl for dry van 14/7 hometime option when i get my cdl, but have been applying for LTL companies in hopes I might get a better paying job out of school.
-
Best of luck... I thought most LTL companies wanted 1-3 yrs OTR but you never know.
-
some drivers in the LTL part of the forum say they were hired without experience. the TM at ABF freight told me they hire new drivers but may have to send them through company school. I guess it depends on the company
I havent heard anything that bad about roehl though they seem to have a decent reputation as a starter company. My driving instructor says Roehlis one of the safest companies -
Good Deal I had no clue, No way in He** I would do LTL (LOL) but glad to hear it
Nightwind8830 Thanks this. -
I have been with the new company a couple weeks and the trucks aren't pretty but they run. I got stuck up in Toledo and since I am hourly now . I got paid for all the sitting. The only bad thing about the new job is the commute to work. An hour each way since I live in the country. So my pickup eats my first 2 hours pay each day. But heck I am home every night and I get paid to sit and nap when something fubar happens.LOL. Seems like Roehl always shorted me on detention pay.

They tend to lie in ads
-
All the companies have ads like that, it is just marketing . I am sure there are guys who are happy there just like at other places. The human animal is an animal that likes routine. If someone gets comfortable in a routine they will stay put rather then risk change. I believe people who live close to Marshfield probably do better then others at Roehl.

I've seen about 5 drivers that retired from there after 30+ years. So it's possible, assuming you had a solid long term FM and worked in like the Curtainside Division.
