About the hardest I listen to is Pantera, Megadeth stuff like that. I mainly listen to the Hair Band era stuff as thats what I grew up listening to.

You get much harder than that and I can't understand it...lol. Maybe I'm just getting old...:biggrin_25523:

I've got some friends that listen to stuff that I can't even begin to explain...:biggrin_25521:

If you want an interesting night on the road, have a friend make a CD of tunes of metal songs they like and include some of the stuff you've never heard of.

So the disc will start out pretty decent with a few tracks you recognize and then you listen to the next track and think.....pirate metal? Then you'll spend some time trying to figure it out and figure out if you like it or not.

..then the next track is...Viking metal? what on earth is....what are they....wow this is different.

Then a track or two of something you like and then after that it's.......white power metal? What the heck is my friend trying to...let me call him up right now. "What the H--- did you put this on here for?! Oh it was a joke to get me mad and keep me awake. WELL IT WORKED!" Wait, let me listen to that again, I can't believe people really buy into this white power thing and this jewish-hating thing. gawd some people are so ignorant."

With all the different styles of metal out there, I'm sure there are at least a handful that will make you turn your head like a dog hearing an unfamiliar sound and go "huh?!"

OH NOW HE'S GONE TOO FAR! HE KNOWS I HATE LINKIN PARK! I'm getting back at him when I'm home for sure now.......

Music doesn't keep me awake for some reason, talk radio does though...I need something to make my brain think, when it shuts down(as it can with music), I get tired...

I am the exact opposite. Talk radio puts me to sleep.
It starts to turn into adults in a Peanuts cartoon after awhile.

My drivers would run 24/7. I have to make sure they get their downtime sometimes. They know I would never ask them to run illegal because they are no good to me if they are down by DOT.

Nothing replaces good sleep, that being said, I also know that in the real world it just sometimes does not happen. Being an LTL linehaul driver I do not have a realistic option for just stopping to take a nap, time sensitive loads, and no sleeper. Napping over the steering wheel just makes me feel worse. I drive only at night so staying awake is sometimes the hardest part of my job. I have found that stopping and walking around the the truck and stretching works about the best as long as it is cold enough out, it doesn't work as well for me in the summer. Aside from that, loud music, usually some kind of rock, works for me as well.

i dont go for any of the little tricks, sleep is the only thing that works every time. if you cant simply BE awake, i dont know all i ask is you dont doze off while im passing you...even when i have a load that requires me to drive all night, i take a nap the day before.
