So I don't get this! Drinking on the job?

What a strange story. Beer in the firehouse? Boy that must of been alot of beer stolen to get fired over it, either that or it is sad to get fired over a couple of "borrowed" beers! LOL
-
Lots of rural fire depts, have fund raiser dances in the winter months to raise money for new uniforms and equipment. I remember going to a few of these when I was dating a fireman. They usually have a beer garden. I wonder if thats why they had the beer there. Since most the time they hold it in the fire hall. <shrugs>

Ahhhhh OK....I thought they were using the BEER to put out fires!
-
Yeah, I can see local beer drinkers picketing the fire stations now.
-
Now that makes sense.

I am on a small rural volunteer fire department. Beer is not allowed on our property. Some of the long time volunteers used to like to drink during our events. It was not a good image for the kids that attended. The trustees and the chief made it the policy. These guys quit.
Personally, I don't miss them. Imagine fighting a fire and coming out and smelling alcohol on the guy who was backing you up or drove to the fire. -
Here were I live beer at the firehouse is the norm
Volunteer fire department that is
Its quite the hang out in my town, rule is you may not drink if on call
We are one of the last around that still allows it
Little by little all the small towns are stopping the practice
Our fire chief says he doesn't ever see a need to stop it
We have a huge force so they always have plenty of members on call
