4 coils for 45k, will most likely all be around the 11k mark each. Make sure you put 2 chains each on them. I've seen some fellas throw a strap thru the center, then a chain on either side of that. Personally, I think the strap is a waste, but if it makes you feel better, go for it.![]()

I want to practice before I go, but I kinda don’t know where to hook my chains at, was told at Western to use the stake pockets
-
-
What do you mean?
-
I would use straps to secure them. Usually, the 'eye to the sky' coils are finished product. I'd strap them. Chains are better for the big shotgun and suicide coils, but eye to the sky, strap em.Bean Jr., MACK E-6, Coffey and 1 other person Thank this.

What you have in the picture are coil belt/strips.
These go between your lumber and the coil.
You said you have 8, that’s fine, use two per coil.
Your chains, I would use one chain straight through the eye, pulling down on every coil, then one chain on each of the front 2 pulling back about 45 degrees, then one chain each on the back 2 pulling forward.
you can run the chain around a stake pocket. You could go around one spool and up inside a stake pocket. I don’t like using 2 spools, the chain can spin/slide on them.650cat425 and farmerjohn64 Thank this. -
Well I’m a little confused because I thought she meant 4 steel coils loaded horizontal (shotgun), all she said was coils, but if it’s those then at least I have a good idea of how to do itTripleSix Thanks this.

This is true, vertical or eye to sky, straps work best.Bean Jr., farmerjohn64 and TripleSix Thank this.

Horizontal is flat to the deck. It could be shotgun or suicide.
Vertical would be eye to the sky.farmerjohn64 and TripleSix Thank this. -
Here is your safety manager
