That was the one I was going to mention. The Danville exit on I-80 down to the Walmart DC in Pottsville. Locust Pass Road, 11%.

12% grade. Up in Canada heading into the town of Trail.
I live in the PNW and steep grades are no big deal... just part of the job.beastr123, Oxbow, Nothereoften and 3 others Thank this. -
The hwy up to Rossland, from Trail?
-
Yeah the signs are still there, Many a driver have dropped drivelines there.

I never got stuck on it, except we had a low boy decide he could come down when 4 of us already started up, I made it past him but he caught one of or tother trucks in a corner then they both were stuck.

14% and loaded right at 79.9k. Had to put her in 5th gear max engine brake 15 mph felt so steep you could feel the trailer wanting to go. I would never take this road in the winter. Roads were tight and the truck climbing the curb had to constantly be on his horn let other drivers know he’s coming he cannot stop or he won’t be able to get her moving again. It was somewhere in Arkansas I’ll remember when I get a lane there again.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Hwy 50, Luther Pass.Between Placerville, CA and South Lake Tahoe, CA. Switchbacks from top to bottom, no guard rail, 12% grade. I took that Hwy for the first time in the winter and it scared the HELL out of me. It was dark and snowing. I don't think I drove any faster than 10 miles an hour to the bottom. So, I thought, " this wouldn't be that bad in the summer ( silly me), so, I attempted it again, ( trying to conquer my fears), needless to say, I was just as scared the second time as the first. BAD IDEA !! I don't know, I still have the burning desire to attempt it once again.
Lepton1 and MartinFromBC Thank this. -
Where was that at ? That makes my 12% look like childs' play.MartinFromBC Thanks this.

Ihave no idea what grade is the steepest I have been on, but I have hauled logs on grades steep enough we would have to unload half the load for the skidder to pull me up. lol
I have built 1 to 1 grades with a dozer, it is a pretty rough pull for a dozer going up one.
We repaved I-80 east of wells Nv pequop hill or however it is spelled. I pulled what we called the train out every morning and evening, if the oil trailer was full, I was grossing well over 200,000. It made for slow going, up or down.
I was coming down one day and we had one lane blocked off, so traffic was pretty backed up behind me, finally one guy asked what the heck it was I was dragging (3 seperate trailers) The guy that run the pug mill which was on the second trailer had to ride with me when we moved, grabbed my radio and told him it was a transformer. The guy said GOOD transform that thing into an airplane and get the hell out of the way. lol I think that may have been the funniest thing I have ever heard on the cb.Gearjammin' Penguin, Truckermania, nikmirbre and 2 others Thank this. -
18% just so Clearlake CA going into the geothermal wells, with a loaded trailer (doubles pneumatics) 56 thousand on board of Type II/V cement for well casings. The drives slip all the way up. On of the trucks with us had to stop because a ( inpatient ) lowboy started down (tanker was half way up already) had to stoo. The contractor had to send a crawler to get him moving again.
Lepton1 Thanks this.
