Steepest grade you ever pulled or went down.....

Discussion in 'Experienced Truckers' Advice' started by Working Class Patriot, Aug 30, 2009.

  1. that one doesn't really surprise me there's a really weird ones in Pennsylvania that are barely marked on some roads 20 25% for half a mile..
personally I always thought everything in Pennsylvania was built on the side of a mountain when I first started Trucking..HAHA!!
it's like almost every road if you drive off an interstate and start meandering up a US state highway or a local Road odds are within 3 minutes of driving you're going to approach a great big steep downgrade LOL..

    Lucas valley road Marin CA
It averaged about 7% and was around 40 mil long
Did that four times a day for a year. Once off that road I went to SF down Broadway. The dirt hauling company I worked for turned the power down in all of their trucks to save fuel but left mine alone due to that run. Going from tall trees and pretty critters to tall skyscrapers and crazy critters was a lot of fun.

It’s open to trucks still. My old flatbed company runs it as long as it is open and passable.

How do you get involved in that? It sounds worth while.

It was through a local church I attended.

Friday morning I delivered just west of Bridgeport, CA at the military base off CA-108. On Google Street View they show this sign within 1/2 mile after leaving US-395.

However, I couldn't find the sign on GSV that showed a truck going up a steep incline that said "24% Grade in 5 miles".

All I could think to myself is, "Challenge accepted!"

Am I wrong? I would have been deadheading with a 48' spreadaxle flat. My dispatcher told me he did it a few decades ago in order to get to Lodi quicker. Unfortunately I was told to boogie back to Fontana.

    Perhaps another time.
