well the goat trails I was talking about I could hardly make it up on my dirt bike and with a 4x4 you would need a winch. No logging in that area!
Steepest grade you ever pulled or went down.....

I have seen some logging roads in Northern CA that I wouldn't want to take my 4 X 4 over......
There is that highway that runs East of Las Vegas NM that has an 11% grade just out of Trujillo........not long... think it is about 2 or 3 miles but it is 11%.....
I have delivered re-bar to construction sites where they have had me drive down a 1:1 grade.....That is for every foot out...there is a foot drop.... -
1:1? would that be a 100% grade then? How the hell did you manage that?
-
Think about it a little bit.
That's a 45 degree angle. Most of us have driven on one, for limited distances. We just don't equate the numbers. -
My guess would be some serious time in the "granny gears." A lot of construction equipment has some serious gear reduction below what you see in the first couple of gears in low range on OTR equipment.

In a tractor trailer...9% is the steepest I can remember.
In a dump tuck...I don't know the exact percentage measurement, but I would guess it at VERY STEEP. No hope of stopping going down loaded...NONE. You just hold it in the road and hang on for the ride. This was considered normal...way back in the hills around home. -
Ok...I found a cool grade calculator......

I know it's 45 degree. I asked if that would equate to a 100% grade. Also, I assumed that he had to start the truck from a stop on it, but a re-read of the post reveals that to be an assumption. I've NEVER driven a truck on an incline such as that one. However, i went up a steeper one with a dirtbike, ATC, and a lawn tractor....it was in my ditch.

except he said he DELIVERED there. which to me means, he drove his OTR equipment over it.
