I have a question for you car haulers its just something i'm curious about.

How are you not overweight on your steer axle? Seems like when you put a car on your rack above the cab and a car all the way forward behind the cab or sleeper it would give you a tremendous amount of weight on the steers.

good question... never thought of that until now that you said something. i would think the rack would transfer the weight to the back

Good point. I'm guessing the 5th wheel plate being so low and far back helps as well???

i would imagine it would. idk ive never been around car haulers but thats also a good point with the fifth wheel being so low it must transfer the weight to the back. it would have to otherwise theres no way thgey could haul cars over the top of the cab

Depends on your steer tires and the state I run up to 14.000 on the steers because of the tires and the states I run in
I am only around 14k when I have 2 x 2500s on top of the truck you can slide your number 2 deck back if you need to and also depends which way you turn your cars to throw the weight of the motor onto the steers, tandems are the trailer

I can put 4 F150's across the top. On the tractor I back those on putting both engine weights over the 5th wheel (drives). The two on the trailer I drive on so the one in the third position has its engine weight on the drives as well. I'm using a Cottrell / Volvo quickloader.

I have to do this in my area of operations because even thoo my steer axle is rated at 14,600, my permit is not. And even if it was, I'm running 275 tires, and around here, they play the 10 millimeter rule with tire width at the scales, so in metric, that allows me 5,500 kilograms max on my steers ...... don't ask .... it's to hard to explain ...... Google it first.

True, but it doesn't happen often in car haul.

Being bob tail in a loaded carhauler is a weird feeling ive had to do it a few times you tend to take curves real slow
