I'm glad to hear you're ok. Nobody got hurt and apparently you did everything right, otherwise you wouldn't have that outcome.
My opinion is, tires don't blow out due to road debris. It might have been a long time internal damage. Tires do have a very sharp long term memory. They never forget any curbs or sharp edges that they were forced to touch or run over. At the moment where the driver would at least expect it, it's pay back time.

$1.50/mile +hourly rate (usually $150/hr estimated from the time they leave the shop to eta for the return)+ plus tire mark up price. Good thing he didn’t chew the wheel up.

Not Worth it! I think the last time I called someone out for a tire I was at the 14 mile marker at the Citgo there in West Memphis on 55.....I Think it was like $380.00 ....But I didn't have a spare, and he Brought me a Low pro Used Tire to throw on the wagon-Just to get me back home....This was in maybe 2007-8

If tire call-outs are going to turn into $1,000 ordeals- Set yourself up , And Carry a Spare- A 12 ton bottle jack if its an inside tire- hose-3/4 gun.. Done in 20 minutes and rolling. and I get it- Not everyone can physically do it- but those that can-

Your avatar made me recall that the first driving job I actually got outta school in 1988 was with an old timer hauling for North American Van Lines ( I'd forgotten all about that.... Maybe I have PTSD from the spring ride...lol )
It was an '84 Freightliner COE, spring ride single bunk, white, rivets everywhere! THAN, I graduated to a 9670 International COE single bunk, team, OTR..... spring ride, no A/C, single bunk, manual steer.... Did I mention I was 1/2 of a team ;-)

Hey Trav, when you went to school.... did they teach No brake and Juice the pedal? I just ask because when I needed to get my 2nd CDL, ( I retired from driving in late 2007 ) it was not taught in that class.... Never thought about it til just now.... pretty important thing Not to cover in a school!

I do not recall being taught that. Its possible I just dont remember due to how much was covered in a short amount of time.

I do remember being told my first week they didnt teach how to recover from a jackknife because at that point a mistake was made and they taught how to just not make those mistakes.

In SD I made a mistake and had a small jackknife and knew what to do from my readings here.

I was lucky then and now. The not braking during my blow out just felt right. And I accelerated because there was traffic behind me and my rim on the concrete was slowing me down too much.

When I went to school in 1988, we spent two
days on a skid pad..... to recover from said mistake.

I appreciate you sharing your experience, it made me recall many things that "may" be second nature to me now.... or I've just been plain lucky not to have encounter for many years.... THX
