hi , I have some freeplay in the pittman arm on my t800. I am going to buy a new bolt and locknut to replace it . Im guessing the ft/b to be around 300? does that sound in the ballpark?
Thanks

wrong place to be guessing Call KW and ask them for the torque spec. I had a pitman arm fail on me and it caused the truck to roll, not a place to mess around.

IIRC, on an international I worked on, it was 600 ft pounds, and it was a freaking allen head bolt. Try finding an allen wrench for use with a 3/4 drive torque wrench.

Need to know what gear? TRW or Shephard?
TRW pitch bolt is 300ft lbs and torque it on the nut, not the bolt. If it was loose and your not replacing both the gear and the arm, it will likely be loose again.Last edited: May 4, 2019
062 Thanks this. -
Its not TRW. I'll try Kenworth to get the specs but in my experience they are very tight lipped unless you are buying parts or getting service. I'll tighten to 300 to at least see if it takes out the freeplay.
Thanks -
You dont need to call KW. So it's a Shephard with the Allen bolt and lock key washer? Show us what ya got......
All steering gear sevice info is open to the public and online access.spsauerland Thanks this. -
Usually the Sheppard bolt has torque spec cast into the face of the head.
dustinbrock and Goodysnap Thank this. -

I'll take a pic. This morning.

Ok I was wrong, it's a TRW. I'm not sure what I was smoking. It's tightened up to 300ft lb.
The free play is gone.. Next week I'll get a new bolt and lockwasher and set it up
Thanks guys
