Hello,
Recently i noticed whining noise coming when turning left and right. Checked the reservoir with engine off fluid is in correct level. Start up the truck i opened the steering dipstick and it sprays fluid out of it. Steering gearbox is leaking behind right at the pitman arm at the shaft. Could be a bad steering gearbox ? Also i noticed sometimes it’s hard to keep the truck straight in lane. Steering pump was replaced not more then 2 years ago.

Most power steering pumps have a filter.
I had similar symptoms once and changing the filter fixed mine.
RoadRanger^^ Thanks this. -
I have replaced that filter maybe like 5 years ago i can give it a try, did you steering box leaked fluid as well ?
-
You need to fix the leak, bleed the system and see what happens then.
RoadRanger^^ Thanks this. -
Does that mean replace the gear box ?
-
Mine was weeping it out the top of the filler cap due to pressure build up. After I changed the filter, it stayed clean after that and the whining noise went away.RoadRanger^^ Thanks this.

I replaced the filter just now and actually fixed my issue. Filter was all clogged and destroyed inside. I still have some leak from the gearbox but that is different issue that might have to be replaced down the road. Truck has 1.2 mil now still original gear. Thank you so much for your helpuncleal13 Thanks this.
