I pull a 48ft step just cant see spending $20,k more for the same trailer just to get 5ft that wont pay anymore money my buddy has a 53ft and can only scale 46,500lbs and said its easy to be over weight on his back axle some loads he cant haul if he has to run the axles closed seems like a pain in the @ ss
Some days i spend alote of time looking for loads under 48,000 i can scale it but with less than a half a tank of fuel so keep that in mind and start shopping now 53ft stepdecks are $$$$
step deck 48 or 53

I'm looking to buy a 53' stepdeck soon, but I have seen 53' stepdeck curtain side trailers for cheap. I'll consider either for my intentions
-
I wouldn't buy a 53' step deck. There's not that much demand for them, they are expensive, heavy, to long, and cost to much. Plus they just look dumb. About the only call I see for them is for containers.
-
Hell...Don't mess around....Get one of these...
07-379Pete Thanks this. -
Now now not everybody needs in on those kind of trailers. If everyone bought them the rates get down where they are for flats and steps. other problem with them is they are pretty heavy so if your just hauling general freight waiting on those once in a while loads it really doesn't work. My empty weight with my T800 and 53' Manac extendable is right at 43000 lbs not exactly light. But if you have a use for it and are getting a decent rate that's actually a really nice trailer in that link.

Yep....Just trying to add a bit 'o humor to the thread....
-
I know I was just pointing that out for everyone that didn't.
-
I don't know about you...But I was drooling at some of the pics at the link.....
-
Yeah I wouldn't mind having one of those cali legal tandem triple tandems brand new.

How do like that Manac? I've been thinking about that option myself. They weigh like 20k right? That would put me at 41 empty without adding a lift axle on the truck. According to LSAgent OZR I won't dead head home for less than $3 per mile, so no cheap rates here. I definetely wouldn't slide the trailer open for less than $4 p/m to the truck b4 escorts and permits.
