I carry 1 bar and it's a decent length but I've never had problems with stepdecks. Our double drops yes.

SOP for low deck truckers: Cut the end of the bar off with a chop saw to shorten it up. Can also put a bigger bend in the tapered end.

I use the quick winch ratchet bar and welded the attachements to all my winches.under $200 labor and parts,the best system i ever had.
U dont have to worry about clearence or the weather or removing and reinserting the bar with every stroke.

The only challenge so far is tarping.
The transition between upper and lower is sometimes a challenge.
Haven't had any trouble with winches yet.
The area around the tires can be a bit of a challenge, but I found if you cross strap or cross chain it works pretty good.
