18" pin: 10' topdeck will clear plenty unless you tend to run more ahead of centered on drives. I had a 10/38 with a 24" setting. Never hit my fenders or caused issue.
Then again I never slide my fifth: it's centered between the drives n never moves. Guess that's a reason lot of steps are 11/37.

If I was to order a step today: I'd get a 50', 18" pin, 10' spread, axles to the back 10/40. I don't ever haul cans that I'd need a 40 bottom. Extra couple of feet might occasionally make things easier tho. N I really appreciate even numbers.

I got the same plan as you @Ruthless . 10/40 is what I'm buying if I ever buy another step. Great minds!

Mine is the same setup- a 48' with 10/38. I only ran across two loads in 2 1/2 years where I couldn't do it because of the shorter trailer. Sounds like you found a good deal.

Just wondering if this way of loading telescopic boom gives good weight distribution? Not too heavy on the drives? Need to load one like this, alway did it the other way with the arm facing to the front and bucket on the deck.

    any insight appreciated.
